Pretty much a gamble IMO. I wouldn't do it unless I knew the person selling.

I didn't read ANY of this thread other than the first post.

My opinion is to go 1080p no matter what. If you can't get the coin together right now for one then save until you do. Its something you are going to keep for quite some time so don't grab whatever you can get.

The deals are out there if you look.

I wasn't even planning on buying a TV but i went to Fry's and they were selling an LG 42" LCD 1080P 120hz tv for 499. We bought it and i love it.

Quality over quantity I guess.

Stay away from DLP TV's - they are a rear projection TV and IMO don't do nearly as good as a job that LCD, LED, or Plasma do. DLP, like Plasma also have bulb(s) that need to be replaced - depending on use, which are usually fairly pricey.

Plasma while much better now then in the past are also susceptible to burn in, thus the reason most of not all come with "screen savers".

The payment plan doesn't look bad, so long as you pay if off before 24 month time frame and are never late. Else you pay the high interest rate for the entire 24 months. I'm never been a fan of loans and try to pay cash as much a possible. So I'd say keep saving until you get the cash.

I dont have the coin to buy one out right, atleast not a higher quality one is the only reason I considered the financing. I might check it out and just see if I even qualify and then go from there. Any thing like that (as long as I pay it) helps credit doesn't it?

Well, this thread caused me to look at them again and definitely getting one for the father in law. However, knowing him and knowing he currently has a 26" CRT, we are going to just get a 32". Pretty sure if we get a 42", he'll send a check in the mail 2 days after I go install it for him. Lots of people buy 42's, so he'll ask around at work and get upset at us for spending $500+ on something for him. BB is having a sale on 32" dynex 720p's now, $279. That's close enough to $250 for us to lie to him in case he asks. And it's still better than what he has and not so big that he'll need to get a new tv stand.

Anyway, thanks for bringing this to the forefront in my mind. :)

So do I for sure not want a plasma? I was at Costco tonight looking and they have better deals at the local store on plasma's. The longest I ever have my tv on is if I watch a movie, so like 2-3 hours, other than that its usually about an hour and a half or so a night playing ps3.

I honestly didn't even realize they were still making plasmas... I thought those things went out like the laserdisc :hehe: Anyways... I'm not a videophile as much as I am an audiophile but I do appreciate a good picture but I don't get as picky as some. I have one of the very first DLP's by Samsung which is now somewhere in the realm of 6-7 years old and the picture is beautiful IMO. I imagine it probably doesn't compare technologically with the new models but it is 1080 and everything that watch in HD is FN awesome.

IMO, Crutchfield is one of the best websites for researching audio/video technology. If you want to undersand teh nitty gritty start there. If you have any questions CALL THEM. Their customer service is 5 star top notch.

Well I am completely broke now~but I lucked out! I went to Costco, while I was standing there a chick came over and marked a 54" Panasonic 1080 from $1300 down to $700!!!! So about 10 minutes later it was trying to find its way into my pickup....lol

54 in Panasonic plasma for $700? I'd avoid seeing Alpine for a few weeks because you stole it!

Its a plasma. I was looking for a LCD but I figured since they knocked $600 off that I couldnt pass it up.

Now I'm jealous, you're gonna love that TV. Panasonic makes some killer tv's.

Yeah its awesome! thanks. I played some skate 3 on it last night and love it. It fits nicely at the end of my bed lol.
