RC Driving Style
Hey,

I was driving my Tr-15 stadium force in my garden yesturday, it was on grass, and it rolled a few times, and was working perfectly. I ran out of fuel in the tank, so I put the car back inside. I came out to drive it this morning, and I pulled the pull start, and I realised it felt wierd, so I tried to free wheel the car and it wouldnt budge. I took the engine off, and the car free wheeled and rolled fine. It is as if the engine is stiff. I have just replaced my clutch, so I dont know if that has anyting to do with that.

If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Josh

The hobby store replaced the clutch.

And no, the clutch bell DOES NOT

The hobby store replaced the clutch.

And no, the clutch bell DOES NOT spin, it is solid on the engine, and only spins when I pull the recoil starter

there is your problem. take off the clutch bell and check the bearings. your clutchbell should spin freely.

That is what I thought. I have undone the screw that is on the clutch bell gear, but how do I actually get the clutch bell off?

Josh

The clutchbell should just slide off after you take the screw out from the end of the crank shaft. If notyou might have to pry it off.

whats pry? There is a little thing inside the clutch bell that slips in, so the screw can screw on. am not sure how to get this out.

When I get it out, what should I be looking for, as I have never done this before.

no offense..but ur not an engineer are you? I've never had a tr15 but its either a screw or a e-clip that holds the clutch bell on on the crankshaft take the clip or screw off and pull the CB off.. u will probably have to pry( use a lever to gain a mechanical advantage) off. watchout for any washers and take note of where they go for re-assembly
after you get the clutch bell off, you have to get the bearings out (because they are what you are replacing) since they are trash anyway u dont have to be super careful getting them out.. aka use a screwdriver as another LEVER and just pry them out. well thats how i would get them out.. is there a better way??

there.. i even threw in some vocabulary

Sorry for the late reply.

My bearings may not need replacing, when I check them, what should I look for?

Josh

Pull apart the clutch assembly, look at the bearings. If you see any rust, throw them away. If the bearing seals are gone, they will more than likely die soon. Take the bearings and put them on the tip of needle nose pliers. Wiggle them side to side looking for play. If there is any play, they are dieing. Roll them on the pliers with your fingers. If they feel gritty, try and put a drop of light oil on them to see if it improves.

The CB bearings are some of the hardest working bearings on any nitor vehicle. Not many parts on the vehicle spin at 3000-5000 RPM. The crankshaft does... anytime the vehicle isn't moving and the engine is running, your bearings are spinning. When the clutch engages, the bearings stop. These bearings see high RPM's and high heat (200+) so they need care and maintainence more so than almost any other bearing on a truck.

I checked it, and the bearings are OK. It is the clutch that is the problem, its shredding and buts have fallen off etc, thats why it is not free wheeling, as part of the clutch is getting caught.

What I can't understand is, I just had my clutch replaced, and have only used it once since it was replaced, and it has already been messed up.

Any ideas. I was just driving it offroad and small jumps and things, and i flipped a few times, nothing unusual.

Josh

replace the spring or springs depending on the set up you have they are probably to soft i would just relace the springs and another new clutch
