Hey how are you guys doing, so I’m in the market looking for a desert racing truck, I’m currently between the Losi Baja Rey 2.0 and the traxxas UDR, here in Mexico I’m looking around a 350 dollar difference between these two rigs, my question is if the UDR is worth the extra money over the BR2 and if not how capable is the BR2 compared to the UDR

Welcome.

The Losi BR 2.0 is a smaller truck (running on max 3S power), than the Traxxas UDR (which runs on 4s/6s). I imagine that accounts for some of the price difference. I haven't owned either one, but my middle son has a UDR and he has been quite happy with it. No parts broken so far, so durability hasn't been an issue. I expect the Losi would be a fine truck too, but have nothing to back that up.

They are two different scales, with the UDR being the bigger truck. I have been wanting a UDR for a while now. It's a great looking truck, and I love the suspension on it. If you got the funds, I'd go for the UDR.

Do you already have a good charger?

I wanted to add to my initial response, especially since I haven't looked at the Baja Rey much.

For the UDR, if you haven't seen this video, check out how the UDR just flows across the terrain. It plants itself after a jump like a glob of pudding hitting the floor. It's really impressive.

I am not a big Traxxas fan for a number of reasons, but Traxxas does have a few gems, for sure. In my opinion, the UDR is the diamond of all of their kits. I want one so bad, but I have so many other things that need attention.

The Losi looks fun, but it does have close to a 2" shorter wheelbase. Given that disadvantage, you have to expect a little less realistic performance, simply because gravity works differently on smaller, lighter objects. So if you look at the Baja Rey hitting similar terrain, you will see a lot of differences in the way it hits the rough stuff.

It just looks a bit more stressed out. Less floaty, and less planted. I also see a LOT of body flex, which just makes the truck look cheap. I hate to diss on Losi, because they have made great RC's over the years, but dayum, that looks bad!

I think if you could fix that flimsy body with some Shoe Goo and drywall mesh tape, that would be a big plus. I also think adding just a little sprung weight and adjusting the shock oil, then adding just a tad more squat would do wonders for this kit as far as performance goes.

But for me, the UDR is just a huge step up, so I would choose it. I can see having a blast with either kit as far as driving them and modding them goes though, so I don't think you could go wrong either way.

Keep us posted!

If it were me @joseandresmartin2004 , I would go with the UDR. It looks like a killer suspension as @WickedFog mentioned.

Zero bounce on it and I believe Traxxas hit it out of the park with this one.
There is a guy on YT showing a bunch of really cool mods for the UDR, like some really sweet looking shocks. $105 for a pair of these bad boys. https://lxshocks.com/products/the1-7bypass-shocks-135mm-160mm

I ended up getting the BR2, right now I’m tuning the shocks to be a little bit more sensitive and already found a solution for the flimsy body

Getting ready to find out for myself on some of these questions.
I am already likely the ultimate UDR fan. With nearly 10 of them in the Fleet.
Finally desided to test one of these Baja Rey 2.0s out.
Ordered it this morning.
Since help from the Forum like 9x19 yesterday and learning that all I need to run my Traxxas Lipo batteries is some cheap little adapters, I am now considering expanding my horizons beyond only Traxxas vehicles. LOL

Never wanted to screw with getting separate battery's and chargers for multiple brands of RCs. With knowledge that all I need is adapter plugs.
I have now bought two Losi RCs. Or rather I have them ordered now.

Ordered one of these.

And one of these.

Not sure which one I am looking forward to trying on the most. LOL
Probably the Baja Rey 2.0 since I am such a scale mega UDR fan. Dying to see how it compares first hand.
Based on what I have read it would not likely be on the same level of scale realism as the UDR but I am betting its lot more
scale then the 1/10 slash 4x4s I run so often.

Lots of great videos on the subject out there as well.
Been enjoying seeing them in action on video.

I suspect the open rear diff on the Baja Rey is likely to be a dislike for me, since the locked rear diff on the UDR and its ability to slide around and do doughnuts even on pavement is favorite of mine.

Here is some size comparison pics I took the other night when I got mt BR2 .
The body on my UDR in theses pics is the pro=line UDR version of the Eisenhower livery F100, only I did not install all the decals.
Largely because I hate how pro-line does their body decals, such a PIA. Lol

The UDR is clearly much larger, and heavier as others mentioned.

Here is a few comparing the size of the not only BR2 and the UDR, but I put my MAXX Slash in the lineup as well.

In these shots I put a 1/10 standard or classic slash ultimate in the mix with factory body UDR,
Clearly the BR2 is larger then the 1/10th scale slash even though Losi calls the BR2 a 10th scale truck.

The newer Traxxas pro-scale slash / Raptor R has a much closer 1/10 scale size comparison with the BR2.
The longer slash chassis and the wide body of the Raptor R gets really close to BR2.

And finally I put a new latest version of the Slash , that came out last month.
It’s close to UDR size yet it’s based on a 2wd slash platform , I think they use the longer chassis like Raptor R to get the wheelbase .

Well after several weeks and several hours of run time with two models in question, I still find it hard to pick one over the other.
I would say there are a few pros and cons to each,

The BR2 is about $200 cheaper, but it is 3S vs 6S, it’s smaller and lighter.
Overall it’s still a ton of fun.

The UDR , BR2 and Tenacity pro were the three trucks I ran last on my track last Wednesday in our group track night.

I would say if I was still racing and playing around on my buddies old SCT style track where the track was tight and really setup well for typical 10th scale SCT racing. My UDRs rarely made it out his track. It just was really too tight and all in all the UDR was too large and not setup well for that type of track. Where the BR2 I think could have participated and been ok on his track. I think the TT pro would have still been the best on his track since it’s really the only SCT10 scale of the 3.

Now because I do truly love the UDR and the BR2 so much. Both are Easily my #1 and #2 favorites in my entire RC collection.
With my track that I am building or built but not really finished, still a work in progress I guess, but I am making sure to keep the lanes larger enough for the larger 7th to 5th scale RCs to be able to enjoy as well.

Also making sure to have a couple decent high speed straits and wide open turns enough to give plenty of room to drift these larger trophy trucks around the turns .

Bottom line if your running your RCs in big wide open spaces with some rough non groomed terrain, then the UDRs added size and weight really give it the advantage, if your running your RC on a typical tight short course track or areas with more groomed surfaces then I prefer my BR2.

With my track, I typically run at least 1 if not 2 full packs through them both. Lol
