Just picked up a sledge today, barely used and love the truck. Only issue is the steering. Has very wide steering radius and also seems very slow, wheels don't even seem to turn completely when running on pavement. Can't imagine servo replacement first on the list, but would too weak of a servo be the main cause?

Just the stock transmitter. Only adjustment knobs are steering trim to center the steering to track straight and multifunction/tsm which I normally leave completely off

Thanks bud, that's what I meant to say but I drew a blank.
I wonder if his dual rate knob is turned way down. Not sure if Traxxas rsdios have that or not. I know some of their radios are very limited on the features.

Ok, take the horn off the servo and move the steering and see if you feel any binding. Sadly, it's likely a weak servo, as the Traxxas RTR servos are not that good. It could just be a bind in the linkage though, but highly unlikely since you said it is barely used.

It could also be a weak servo saver, so check that as well. It'll be a spring loaded mechanism built into the servo horn.

Will do, thanks. Wondering if it's the servo saver. Had exact same symptoms on kraton when I bought it used. Took a few times to figure it out, but perfect fix was an HD exb servo saver and has worked perfect since. Just not sure if I need to remove servo linkage on sledge to tighten saver up. Busy day and not much time to look into it yet

If it's not the saver, my guess is a weak servo, or possibly even gears in the servo stripped, catching teeth just enough to turn it a bit, but hitting a flat spot in the gear and slipping. Does it always return to center? Or does center seem to wander arfter driving it? If it does wander, it's likely the gears.

Always returns to center so far. Will mess with it tomorrow. Can't imagine the tsm being completely turned off would affect it, but I'll try that first.

The servo saver arm on the bellcrank deforms and rocks back and forth killing your steering. The solution is replacing it with something else. I run a Treal bellcrank with a stock Traxxas spring.
Dejavu ? Lol

I found a servo tester to be very beneficial in my rc life.

You purchased a used rc.. whats the model # on servo? and Yes a slow servo can cause this also a servo without enough through

It's a traxxas 2275 servo I believe. Has to be servo causing my issues. Messed around with tsm for a bit and actually made steering even slower. Nothing binding at all. What's a good servo u guys recommend for a decent price. Does anybody know how many oz of torque 35/45kg servos would have

35kg/cm is 486.0585294861188 oz/in.

Here's a servo kg to oz conversion chart.
