I promise to keep my mess in the sandbox...

I am what the Navy calls a Naval Flight Officer (NFO). The platform I fly in is the E-2C Hawkeye (the Navy's version of the AWACS). I ride in the back and work the weapon system and control aircraft in what is known as Air Intercept Control. Basically, I tell the good guys where the bad guys are and then get them into the same piece of sky so that the good guys can kill the bad guys.

Oh I get it your a switchboard operator in the sky why did'nt you just say so J/K Thats cool without people like you out there it would take longer to finish the job. When you go out next I wish you a keen eye a cool mind and good hunting.

Not a switchboard operator...a radar operator, then air control operator and last but not least the Combat Information Center operator (he's the mission commander, the big kahuna, the man with the plan, the dude with his finger on the big red button...)

Hunter, thanks for the well wishes...with the weapon systems we have today, it is hardly hunting...more like shooting fish in a barrel.

I guess I'm just old school when it comes to weapons and how they are used. Oh I do have a question for you is it true or fighters can now hit an air target from over 60 miles away??? And SkyMaxx it might be like shooting fish in a barrel but that would be a big barrel without your plane up there to help.

I was watching wings on tv and they were saying it was posible just thought I would ask. Oh and Iv seen a guy trying to shoot a fish in a barrel after 30min and 50 plus rounds the fish was still swiming fine.

Try 1000 rounds a second from a vulcan cannon gatling gun...no more fish, no more water, no more barrel...

As for the TV story...Sorry, I can only give you the JANE's version (meaning unclassified)...it's that whole National Security thing...not to mention I prefer my current home to a cell in a federal penitentiary

There is only one problem with the vulcan its in the depleated uranium rounds they have a nasty habbit of contaminating what ever they hit. I dont mind so much if the bad guys have to deal with it but it always seems like the good guys find there way of getting into it and getting real sick from it.

So I've heard...that is probably why the military is starting to get away from using depleted Uranium and finding some other heavy metal to replace it...

That maybe so but Ill give you 10 to 1 odds its just as bad but we wont know it for 20 years. I know how the military can hide the facts when they want to, dont forget I was it the military to.

I'm not saying that the military is a clean organization. When the facts do come to light and they are bad, the military works hard to resolve whatever the issue is. That solution may or may not always be better than the original problem, but at least they try.

I am firm in my resolve as a military man. We have the strongest fighting force in the world. We got here on the blood, sweat, and tears of those that have gone before. Those that forget their sacrifices do not understand what a privelege it is to be an American. Bad stuff happens, and we are there to put it aright...whether the "...enemy is foreign or domestic."

Sometimes the very things that we use to make us the strongest military in the world are hazardous in nature, but those are some of the risks associated with being a military man. Yes, I would love to know what it is I'm playing with and whether or not it will cause me harm as a side effect of its use...but for the most part I am pretty blissful in my ignorance.

Well for lack of a better way to say this I see you watch a hole lot of TV in your office that was a real nice speach you must be an officer. I'm 4th gen military Iv lost faimily to foreign aggression I know as well as any other American what must be done to keep our way life just the way we like it. But I also know there is no excuse for the goverment to cover up the things that make our men sick and there is no way in ---- I will ever accept them not taking care of those who fight and give there lives to keep us safe. And one other thing no one ever said we did not have the strongest fighting force in the world. I back or boys and girls who now fight for us as much as any one in the country if not more then most. Ignorance is bliss but when you get sick ( I hope you dont) from something that could have been avoided and the military says its not there fault and you have to foot the bill there will be people like me out there trying to stop them and trying to help you.

I am glad you find my speech capabilities up to par. I am a Naval Officer and damn proud of it. I have worked hard to get where I am, and take slight offense at the inference evident in your first line. I don't even have a TV in my office.

I didn't get where I am alone. The people I work with and who work for me are some of the finest servicemen I have ever met. I take great care of those in my charge and work to make sure that they want for nothing both in their family lives and their career.

I never said that you do not know what it takes to keep our great nation the way it is. If you took that as a shot directed at you, perhaps its time for a conscience check. I was making a general statement about how I feel about my country and its military.

As for government cover ups, they happen all the time. If the common folk new half of what our government was involved in, they would probably blow a head gasket. I am not condoning this; simply acknowledging it.

As for servicemen and women getting sick, my father developed a brain tumor, cause unknown. It ended up getting traced back to some stuff he was involved in while on active duty. It took a little bit, but VA got involved and resolved the issue. He no longer has the tumor and is leading a full life.

Back to the personal attacks...I have not now nor ever called into question your beliefs. I have not directed anything negative in your direction. My comments have always been my opinion and general in scope. If you desire to engage me in a word war, that's fine. Let's leave the daggers in their sheaths and talk about things.

My ignorance is bliss comment was mostly in jest. I take my personal health quite seriously and so does the military (as far as I have experienced). When and if I get sick, and the cause is determined to be something that Uncle Sam had a hand in, I will take the government to task. Until that time, I will fight for my country to the fullest of my abilities. I will fight for those of my fellow fighting men and women who have been struck down.

If this debate is going to wind up in a fight of a personal nature, then I will break off the engagement and be happy to let you have your opinion while I maintain mine. This has been educational to say the least....an RC forum gone from one mention of a person's career to a discussion of the military and government policy...I'm thinking, it is high time we hang up the deep discussion and stick to lighter topics like why does my LSN not work, or what 1/10 truck should I buy...

PS. I too come from a long lie of fighting men...Family tree traced back as far as the 1600s and each generation has had men fight and die in some war or another.

Oh come on now SkyMaxx dont get all uptight over this its just a good old adult conversation were having here. As for the personal attacks you mention please quote me so I can deal specificly with what you are referring to, I dont want you to feel like I'm attacking you, by you quoting me Ill be better able to find ways of expressing myself or atleast explaning myself that might not be so offensive to you ( or may be not), so just quote me and feel free to let me know you did not like what I said or how it was said so we can deal with it . Now onto the word war you mention. I do not belive it would be in good spirit and after reading the way you type I'm clearly out classed in that department so ill pass. I think it might be a good idea in the future when we engage in this type of conversation we set ground rules so we dont get on each others nerves as it seems to have happend here today. And one last thing this is the general chaos section of the board so I dont think were likely to come across to many people needing or combined wisdom in nitro r/c.

In the future, i will be more specific in my defense and quote what I perceive as a shot fired at my person. I mentioned one such offense in my opening paragraph on my last post. Perhaps my edge has more to do with my exhaustion than your words. At any rate, i enjoy a good adult conversation...it is a welcome change from the immature rantings I found on the TRAXXAS forum.

I retract my claws and stand at ease. I just feel rather pationately about my service and tend to be one sided in my vision of it. Good natured discussion turned bad was not nor is my intent.

Future debates and ground rules...that might be a wise idea. As usual, I concur with you there. My nerves are a little sensitive tonight do to a lack of sleep. Sorry to spin up so quickly and vehemently.

And for the location of the debate...you are again correct, this is "General Chaos", but it is still located on a RC web site and part of a RC forum. I just didn't expect to get into such a debate on the topic we did. There I go again...starting another one...

The type A+++++ personality in me takes over sometimes (almost all the time ).

Hunter...I enjoy the conversation and the debate. Don't change your methods or your attacks personal or otherwise...it only makes me think harder and longer...and thinking is a good thing. As for the speech writing comment, I'll take that as a compliment; although I am unsure whether or not it is intended as one...kind of sounds like a criminal telling the DA "You're a really good prosecutor." after he is found guilty.

I was (now a vet) in the United States Army. My M.O.S. was 11B. Infantry. I was in a specialized recon unit that was an 'Air' unit. Air Assault to be specific.

1st 174th Infantry Division
101 Airborne

Drop in - find - dont get caught - kill if captured - get the heck out!
