Can't Fire 'er up!

...but I can't get my engine to turn over. We have it on a stand and i'm trying to get it to start. We primed the engine, tried two brand new glow plugs and both work, we tried two diffrent ignitors, both work...we can't get it to start at all! Wait...AW18 is telling me to lean...I'll go try that.

what do you mean it wont turn over?
like it wont make a complete revolution or it turns over but will not start?

it won't start. Its turning over fine...and if you want to know, its an Ofna Ultra LX Comp w/ a .26 engine.

first off is this a new motor/buggy and are you trying to start for break in or has it been run before?
if it has been run before make sure there is fuel getting to the carb, check the fuel tank lid is closed properly .fuel line are good ,no small holes ,pressure line is not off pipe ,and try resetting the carb to factory settings if it has already been broken in i would not lean it until it is reset then do it in 1/12 turns on the LSN till it tries then open it a little ,that should work

Who is AW18?
Fresh off the bench of the master, AW18.
He's an expert like the great Cooperdillon.
J/K..

I told you on your buggy thread that the motor is a PITA to break in.

DO NOT MESS WITH THE NEEDLE SETTINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, as pointed out, make sure fuel has made it from the tank to the carb. If you are not sure fuel is there, pull the fuel line off of the carb bib, then pull the pressure line off of the exhaust pipe. While holding the fuel line in one hand, away from the car, give a little blow into the pressure line. Yes, you need to put your mouth on it so it gets enough pressure. If fuel comes out the end you are holding in your other hand (the end that would go onto the carb bib) then you have fuel making it from your tank to the carb.

Put the lines back on the car and pick up your transmitter. If the stock settings on the transmitter throttle trim are not changeed, move the throttle trim forward or up slightly. Sometimes it helps to have a little extra juice to first start these engines and this is easier than holding the throttle slightly open. Turn on the transmitter and your car batt pack. Put your glow ignitor on the plug, and then try to start it. It should try to start. After a few tries it should start, albeit roughly. If it runs, leave it alone for about 20 seconds with the glow ignitor on it. Then take off the ignitor and see if it stays running.

If at anytime during the above paragraph the idle is high enough to make the wheels turn, turn the throttle trim down ever so slightly, slowly.

If you get this far, come back and let us know and we can go to the next stage. This may take a couple of hours, but now since you are started let's get it done, and right.

I moved up the throttle trim slightly, but I don't want to move it up too far, as I am holding the car with my arm around the back and on the spoiler, slightly touching the wheels. I returned the needles back to factory settings. I'm going to try to start it and if it doesn't, i'm going to let it sit and wait till tomarrow since its dark already and don't want to disturb any neighbors if it DOES in fact start up.

P.S. Albeit means even though, correct?

Apparently I wasted my time, you can't read, or you just don't care.

Good luck. :n00bie:

Well...progress so far: It tried to start up and then died down quickly, even with the glow igntor still on. I tried again and again after that and it did nothing so I'm guessing its flooded. I'm going to let it sit over night and then try again in the morning. Thanks for the information Revo Rancher.

Since there is tension here, please just list your conditions.

New Engine?

Type of Glow Plug?

Fuel?

What have you done to it?

Needle settings you are using now and have you reset them to factory?

Revo is helping you out but you need to listen so you can learn.

Help us help you!!!

Brand New engine, hasn't been run yet(so to speak of).

Glow Plug - Dynamite Long.

Fuel - O'donnals RTR fuel.

What have you done to it - Oiled air filter, Put fuel in, Put batteries in, primed it, tried to start it, changed glow plugs.

Needle settings - Have been reset to factory

Fast Eddy... Whats wrong with a thank you? Oi Vey...i'm becoming a nusence. Pshr ah...sorry. As I said before, I'm going to wait till tomarrow and then take it to the LHS to mess with everything since I don't want to break the damn thing.

Busted Gears- Thanks for the PM, I'll try doing that tomarrow.

Ok Breaking in an engine is never easy. You may want to loosen the glow plug a LITTLE to alleviate all of the compression seen a new engine. Try starting it that way. The glow ignitor may need to be left on for a little bit but you can give it a little throttle to keep it going. BUT you should have your idle take care of that. I like to have it open a little more to help it from stalling then readjust once it is warm.

Start here and then let us know or you can go with plan and go to the LHS and get help there. Your call.

Its started now...

Okay, we went to the LHS and it took him about a half hour to start. We know it was flooded because 5-7 oz. of fuel came out of the engine & exaust stinger. He started it up, gave it some impolsis of throttle and then killed it and gave it to me. He said most of the problem was the POS glow ignitor I had(It took 1 D battery). He gave me a few extra glow plugs and got me a rechargable glow ignitor and we were off. I can't start break-in( :bored: ) till tomarrow because the ignitor takes 14-16 hours to charge first time. He said that it should start fine know. I asked him about break-in and he said get a big area and just blip the throttle from 0 throttle to 1/4 for 2-3 tanks. Then he said blip from 1/4 to 1/2 for 2-3 tanks and so-on. I am so glad and it should start up easily now he said. :hammer:

Thanks for all your help yesterday and help in the future!

EDDY WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING,Don't tell him to get a glue, then he'll be stuck here with us till you kick him out,GET A CLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spitfire.

lol...I think spitfire is just anxious guys....he's got a new christmas toy and can't play w/ it yet til he finishes the college courses it takes to drive one....

Spitfire nice way to answer the questions....one reason it seems there's tension on a thread like this is when you don't acknowlege the advice given.....if you tried the stuff Revo listed just let him know or whoever before asking more questions......
and tomorrow go break that sucker in and drive til your hands hurt......and let us know what you broke on the first day too......
