@Warby might be your guy for this car...

For $40 it would be worth buying for parts for sure!!!

If it was a Kyosho I would be ALL OVER this car!!! ❤️😎👍

Thank you!

If I wake up tonight dreaming about this car, I might message you tp go ahead and buy it anyways! 😍😎

I have no clue. Not familiar with ofna.

@Littlemotor will be able to ID it I bet. 😎

Was thinking more about for a good nitro resto project in general. Seems like you enjoy a nitro challenge. 👍
I see. I see.
Can't even think about another project atm.

Looks like an olllllllllllld OFNA Ravager, or some other super archaic 9.5 variant.. It’s 22yrs old at a minimum.
Oh wow. That motor/electronics might be in pretty rough shape.

I always think they are junk until I am proven otherwise with old stuff like this. Keeps disappointment at a minimum! 🤣

Restos are a labor of love. Even the 'easy' ones.
I'll bet someone scoops it soon. 😎

first thing I noticed was the upper front arms, which screams Ultra LX2. But there’s some really obvious things that don’t scream Ultra lx2 like the hingepin holders 😂

Whatever it is, it’s definitely a HongNor made buggy. I’ve owned both Hobao and HongNor built Ofna 1/8 buggies. The HongNor’s are not built very well… they are incredibly fragile compared to the Hobao’s. I’d pass on this… parts will be impossible to find and it wasn’t really exceptional or anything when it was new.

I don’t know what Hong Nor’s & Hobao’s you’ve been driving lol..

While Hobao has indeed assembled some very nice vehicles as far as fit, and finish are concerned-I would have to disagree with that run down of Hong Nor vehicles.

I’ve owned and beat the absolute piss out of Hobao’s ranging from Hyper 7, Hyper 8 & 8.5, Hyper 9, and Hyper ST. This was back when they were the most popular beginning around 2004ish.. I absolutely loved my Hyper 8, and it was one of the best driving nitro buggies I’ve ever owned. That being said-I’ve had farrrrrrr more Hong Nor vehicles. The above vehicle is not at all what I’d compare any of the Hong Nor OR Hobao’s to. That thing was bottom of the barrel over two decades ago when it was new.

What I can say with the utmost confidence is that ANY Jammin’ vehicle would put up with TWICE the punishment of any of my NICE Hobao’s-no matter how well that Hyper 8 drove. Like I said regarding “fit & finish”; the Hyper 8 was nice. The Jammin’s were far more loaded with upgrades right from the start, but were for sure less “racing art” (as Hobao liked to put it back then)..

Park a Jammin’ X1-CR next to a Hyper 8… The differences are STAGGERING. And that’s just sitting on the bench. Put them both on the track for a weekend, and see which one racks up more tanks without maintenance, or breakages.. Don’t even get me started on their truggy lol.. That Hyper ST was a turd-plain and simple. The Jammin’ CRT however; arguably the best 1/8 truggy available at the time Until Mugen dropped the Prospec.. Had both of those as well. We can even delve into the mini-truggies… The CRT.5 vs the Hyper mini-ST… Not even a fair comparison 😂🤷🏻‍♂️.. Even in onroad “bashing” Hobao didn’t have anything at all (and never did with future offerings IMO) for the legendary OFNA DM1-which was also clearly Hong Nor..

When I think back on my own personal experience with over half a dozen different “NICE” Hobao’s; I immediately think “super swanky fit & finish, but ultra delicate with horrendous durability issues”.. Jammin’-on the other hand; “a real tank of a vehicle, FAST, DURABLE, and LOADED. Also the obvious “fan favorite”…”..

I’ve actually still got a pair of ultra nasty CRT.5’s 10ft away from me right now that I would LOVE to pick on a pair of Hyper Mini-ST’s with.. 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

Just my .02. 🍻

I’m speaking just Ofna in general. They were not sourcing good HongNor buggies 15-20 years ago. HongNor made some good ones, but as far as what Ofna in particular was selling, the Hobao’s were far better in terms of handling and durability. That’s just my opinion though based on my own experience.

HongNor made some great buggies. They just weren’t Ofna branded unfortunately.

Ya know… I’ve always looked at jammin as an entirely separate entity. 🤣🤦‍♂️ I feel like I’m experiencing a Mandela effect in real time, I could’ve sworn they were two seperate companies. I’ll admit when I’m wrong, even if I was ripped away from my timeline 🫡

Welcome to the wonderful world of OFNA 🤷🏻‍♂️🙄🤣.. OFNA, Bong Whore, Hobao, Picco, etc.-they were allllllllllll one big RC orgy.. I guess what I’m saying is that not ALL Hong Nor produced vehicles (some standard Hong Nor, and ALL Jammin’ vehicles) were garbage. Just like not ALLLLLL Hobao offerings were top quality. Again-I absolutely LOVED my Hyper 8-but it was one of VERY few to ever make it Stateside, and was also not available to the general public. Mine was sent to Rob @ Nitrohouse as a straight up racecar, intended for one of the Hobao factory drivers. It was pure luck, or destiny that it ended up in my hands. Had a whole slew of one-off upgrades, and options that literally no other Hobao vehicle in the USA was available with (and VERY FEW anywhere else)-right on down to the extended chassis, which was unheard of in 2004-2005. The thing was butter smooth, extremely capable, and drove like no other buggy I had from Mugen to XRAY for years.. It was however-on the fragile side for sure-as were all of the Hyper line.. When Hong Nor released the Jammin’ stuff for Jay, and Chad-the durability showed up in force. No more shattered c-hubs, farrrrrrr superior plastics, chassis’, and towers were not bending-you get the idea. At that time-you weren’t anybody at all at the track if you didn’t have yourself a Jammin’.. The Hyper 8 had some seriously nice machining, and ultra exotic LOOKING parts, but they just weren’t very strong unfortunately-where as the Jammin’ X1-CR was completely loaded with super stout 7075 parts to go along with the gobs of carbon fiber goodies; and it was a TANK when it came to durability-without the drive suffering. If you ever get a chance-look at the swanky aluminum chassis braces for the high end version of the Hyper 8, then compare them to those the X1 boasted.. And the S-brace.. The differences VISUALLY are night and day, lol.. Those were the days-and I miss ‘em for sure..

Today the Hobao stuff is I’d say 99% RTR, and ARTR, and looks goofier than ever (that’s really saying something, as I didn’t think Hobao could 1-up themselves in that dept. 😅), while the latest nitro buggy from Hong Nor is still a tank, crazy capable, and highly innovative.. Just peep their adjustable caster c-hub design, and quick access diffs.. It’s one seriously bad unit IMO, and the price is RIGHT as well. 😎
