The stuff is killer if you’ve got a brand new tip, and the shape isn’t awesome for the OG US Army way of a new tin-job.. I have a couple tips that are in that category. Also works well for cleaning up & re-tinning one that’s been neglected..

I've never used it. I only just get it hot then clean the tip in wool

Takes more effort than that on a virgin, or one that’s had the tin job cleaned completely off. You CAN “make do” with some Oatey brand plumber’s flux, but this stuff is just so much better imo, and does a much nicer job with zero fuss. Keeps ya from wasting good solder just to get your iron to wear it’ll do its job cleanly, and consistently.

There’s a fine line between getting the fresh tip to accept solder, and simply smoking the flux right off before it can.. One of my Weller’s goes from zero to 650F in under 10sec, so it just helps get it done proper-and with no bs.
