The upper end autel's are great machines, especially with euro-trash. Never heard of the Topdon. Can you update it maybe?

Topdon uses the same software as Launch Tech scanners. 2 years of free upgrades and they’re compatible with AutoAuth so you can bypass the security for FCA vehicles. I’ve heard nothing but good things about them, even from actual technicians. It won’t replace a snap on or match scan tool, but it should be plenty for my use. The price was right and being “wireless” while still maintaining bidirectional control was a big selling point. The hardware is just better than the Innova as well… at $600 I way overpaid for that Innova for how laggy and slow it is. Doesn’t even have autoVIN and can take 5-10 minutes to get into a module sometimes. We’ll see how good the TopDon does… they have a wireless battery tester accessory for it as well I really want to try.

The Innova had lifetime free updates and has the newest update. It just doesn’t seem to want to talk to those modules. It’s 100% possible it’s a problem with my truck causing the communication issue. It’s just strange my neighbors truck did the exact same thing, which is what makes me think it’s an Innova problem.

If you have a comm issue with the vehicle, the modules you can talk to would report it via com loss codes.

I'm not very familiar with a lot of the cheaper scan tools out there. I use a snap on solus pro and GM factory stuff. After you've used the factory scan tools, the rest seems like junk in comparison but it comes at a hefty price. My snap on scanner was 6k. The wireless interface module for gm factory is a grand and that's just the interface, not software.

GM's tech 2 was a great scanner up to about 2012. I see those selling for cheap on ebay.

I just can’t justify $6k for what I do. I’m not a mechanic by trade and don’t make money off of working on vehicles. I know just enough to not need a parts cannon and be able to work on my newer vehicles. Something these mid level diagnostic tools can do, but the cheaper scan tools can’t. It’s not as capable as the higher end stuff, but I don’t need it to be.

If I stumbled across a cheap used Tech 2 at a pawn shop or a swap meet, I’d probably grab it just to play with it though. 🤣

My favorites were easily the Tech 2, the Modis, and the goood ol’ Brick.. 🤘

Santa came to the mailbox today. Finally got my mitutoyo calipers and they’re the real deal as promised. I also got a new front end for my sk. It’s slightly less durable than the previous front end however it is quite lighter so i think this front end will be a happy medium. I’m gonna make some minor adjustments to the front end. I got some delrin ride height shims coming in tomorrow for it. Also, don’t judge but I bought a keychain of a Japanese anime character. I’ll admit it; its a guilty pleasure but it’s cute and it’s one of my favorite characters. As for my confidence I think it’s starting to come back maybe hopefully? I found a different case for my transmitter that uses latches and seems more durable which it’s important so I’ll pick that up when I can soon.

I already want the fast one. Also debating on a castle system in it. This was a wrong move. 🫠🙃
If-errrrrrr uh, I mean WHEN you do that, you don’t have a hair on your ass if you don’t use the old stuff to build yourself one of these:

How cool would it be to build that and put an RC car in the washtub base so it actually appeared to work 🤣
