So take the next two days off with pay... tell them I said it was alright.

:woot:
if only. problem is, i work for a very small company (3 people work here) we're the only ones on earth who make a lot of the stuff we make/reproduce and my boss doesn't know how to do part of what i do. i could leave for a 2 week vacation right now. these jobs will be sitting right here waiting for me what i come back. :arghh:

I hate the post nightshift hangover. Wish I could just snap my fingers and be 100% recovered.
I worked the overnight shift for a period of about 7 years. I know many people who have a hard time adjusting nights to days, but I actually had no issues going back and fourth with my sleep cycles.
Hope you recover soon!

I've been doing it for 13-14 years and it gets harder the older I get. After 8 shifts straight of nightshift your body(and mind) is set in the cycle. It doesn't want to change back. I actually do well on nightshift and sleep really well during the day. I know some mates that don't. But changing back to normal dayshift sucks. Plus the recovery period is in my own time not company.

I was working in nuke plants for awhile and I loved working the overnight shifts. Less red tape, less oversight, and less BS. However, they were 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week and that shizz gets old quick. I could never get anything done during my off time no matter how hard I tried. I was considering taking a position that had a "shift work" schedule where they cycle between days and nights, but I came to my senses.
Now I work 4 tens (06:00-16:00) with 3-day weekends every week. Best schedule i've ever had.

That is a great 40hr schedule!

My current schedule is great in its own way: M-F 5:30am-2pm. There's a little over an hour commute home, but I'm typically in my garage no later than 3:15pm. I can still get a lot of stuff done before bed time, which is around 9pm.

I wish I could get more done when I get home on work days! I'll get dinner on the table and then it's lazy time.
After work is typically a juggling of house maintenance, play time, dinner, and exercise. We eat dinner kinda late, so I typically chill on the couch after dinner which is usually between 6:30-7pm.

I too prefer working nights for the same reasons. Also less people, less interruptions, less bosses etc. Left alone to do my job. Plus it's slightly cooler during the hot season.

I'm doing 12 hr shifts for 8 day weeks. 8:6.
It's not the nightshift I have an issue with, it's the recovery time. It's wasted time. Feel like absolute shite and don't feel like doing anything.

I used to do a 2:1 roster. That was worse.

My brother does a similar roster. I thinks it's referred to as the retirement roster or something like that. It's good for him as he's home for his young children on the weekends.

Anyways, I'm ranting about it but I'm not planning on changing soon. It pays the bills. I just need to vent every now and then.

Is that 8 days on, 6 off @Warby? That's quite a stretch off, but it takes a long time to get there!
I like that term "retirement roster", lol.

Yes correct.

Its good but It doesn't seem like a long stretch off when you consider travel, night shift recovery time and catching up with all the chores that weren't done in the 8 days away.

I get up at 4:15am for work, so no can do!
Makes sense. I only eat at that time when home. My wife works full time too and both my kids work after school hours, so we eat when we can.
