Servo

I've been having steering issues... rather, the lack of the stuff. I don't know. I'm just so thankful I don't have walls to deal with at the end of the straightaway I'm hoping it's the servo giving up, and not the transmitter on the fritz

Taking on bigger obstacles than it should... I salute that JX servo for all that is has done for me. I'll put it in the "junk drawer" for now until I comfirm the Tx/Rx is not the issue.
Everything all bolted up/tucked in... we have rain scheduled all day .

First pull of the trigger and the SL sped off to the first jump. A total of about three seconds and my highly anticipated first run of the day ended in failure. I thought I busted a turnbuckle during the landing as one wheel was going in opposite direction from the other side. I picked up the truck and walked back to house in disgust.

Damage was not as bad as I thought. Ball stud on Ackermann plate had just come undone...

So sometime between my last servo install post and now... the ball stud had worked its way loose. I guess I'll have to make a mental note to keep an eye on these ball studs from now on. Weird? Yes, it is, because in six years of ET410 usage, I've not even thought about checking these ball studs.

Maybe a longer threaded ball stud (M3x10mm) and lock nut are in my future. I think there is enough room to make that happen.

Well, seeing pivot balls undo shock mounting screws from constant jarring suspension travels, it can/does happen. Many RC platforms combat the issue with reverse threaded screws, or some type of locking pivot pin.

I guess the rod end on the SL is either too tight or had taken on too much dust.
A part of my post run inspection includes spraying CVDs/Universals with a dry lubricant.

I'll have to shoot the rod end with slick stuff and try to remember to keep an eye on things.

I walked out to the track; put the truck down; pull the trigger, and truck takes a hard left while I'm turning the wheel right . Well, chit...

For now, its CA glue on the threads with...

She says a lot A lot of folks will use Team Associated B6 rod ends when they have problems with the stock Tekno variety. I've got no problem with Tekno's ball studs. I never really had an issue with their rod ends either (knock on wood). Associated, on the other hand, I've snapped a ball off once or twice in the past. As far as my ball stud issue, I'm just making a mental note to check it after every run and see if it is indeed loosening little by little.

On a search for a tiny receiver box. In the meantime, this is good as it's going to get. No hiding the wires today. Old school. Out in the open...

I can't wait to see what mess I'll collect here in a moment.

Yeah, conformal coating if you will.

This is why I love the openness of the ET410 and SCT410SL chassis. After 12 minutes, most of the junk that got thrown onboard had a place to escape.

Bulkhead Mystery

I don't remember ever having this much dust entering a rear bulkhead/gearbox...
There's a little lip that goes around the whole bulkhead that mates up with the cover.

Maybe I didn't tighten the cover enough?
Maybe the case got tweaked/cracked? I checked but didn't find anything.

I lost the photo of my "grease gasket" applied... a bead of grease around the bulkhead & cover (white stuff around the edges) .

Shock boots... in the trash they go.

Some Hobao droop screws (on the right) to replace the stock ones.

Diff gear and HD outdrives look great for three years of abuse... unlike the rear diff in earlier post.

Finishing Up

Toothbrush and lots of elbow grease to get the dirt off.

I went with J&T bearings this time around. Having ABEC5 10x15x4mm bearings was the deal breaker I'm taking out the o-rings in the diff coupler & out drives that I use to center the driveshafts. You can see the wear on the outdrive below. Smooth the edges out (Dremel) and whip it back in.

Added some new 5mm connectors. The heatsink grips make it easier to pull the connectors out.

Good to go. Now, just gotta wait for snow melt... it's going to be awhile.

Oooh you just widen the slot in the outdrives so they're parallel again? I'd never even thought of that. I have a bunch of outdrives that I thought were just trash.
