Team Losi (TLR) coming back in 2025!

from what iv heard wHorizon doesn't have the molds for the XX platforms so a rerelease would require all new tooling, which means high cost and some R&D. not sure the demand for the XX platform is there. they're cool, but not really iconic in the same way the RC10 was. we'll probably never see a rerelease.
and the XXX platform is just to new. (feels weird saying a 25 year old car is to new)

reverse engineering or for the love of god they could but old ones back and use those to redue the molds
If it is true about the Losi tooling...
Long story short: Team Associated had lost all there tooling for the RC8 (Nomad DB8 in particular), B4/T4/SC10 (maybe other platforms as well), when their parts manufacturer went bankrupt. They said that there are some platforms that we'll just never see again. Just too costly to take the risk I guess.

I highly doubt it's a capability issue. There's guys at my local track that can get rare a-arms for impossible to find parts manufactured out of high quality materials that exceed the originals in every measure. So if Losi wanted to make new chassis kits they could, it just wouldn't be the exact same way they were manufactured in the late 80s and 90s. We see this with rc10 rereleases where a few key parts aren't 100% direct fit between new and vintage kits because the process and materials are a little different. Imo it's most likely an accounting issue. They need to sell X amount of kits to make a profit. If they had confidence they could sell X amount they would do it. But I think vintage Losi doesn't have quite the same market share of vintage rc10, Tamiya, kyosho, and yokomo.

Me and the vintage race organizer were discussing this the other day. There's a growing demand for Losi to rerelease a vintage kits. Even the RC10 guys want Losi to make a kit because very few people are willing to run their vintage Losi cars. They fear that the vintage races will just become rc10 vintage races with a few oddballs here and there.

I think I initially checked out this thread due to my long-dormant Losi 22 1st gen 2wd buggy. Would love to race it again, but I can't find parts easily and would probably get smoked by current generation buggies. I think it would be good for larger brands to put more effort into growing the racing segment of the hobby. One way would be to get rid of brushed motors in entry-level raceable RTRs. I also wonder why Losi/HH got rid of bind-n-drive. Why would I want to buy a new car with one more pistol grip radio that I already have. Another thing that's different now compared to when I first got into the hobby grade stuff with a TQ10 (late 80's/early 90's) is that we got a lot of information through magazines like RC Car Action. There's lots of great content now on YouTube and other sites, but it would be cool if there were a more mainstream RC racing streaming show or something to put it more front-and-center to the viewing public. Maybe a reality show where two teams are given identical RC kits, electronics etc. and build it in time-lapse on camera, then race. My kids stream other people playing video games (sometimes the people doing it are hilarious but at first I thought the concept of watching someone else play video games was dumb tbh). I'm sure it's probably already out there in some schools, but another way the big manufacturers could get some publicity would be sponsoring School STEM events. Some of the kids participating would be sure to move on to be RC racers later.

I think the next evolution of RC surface vehicles could be to make tracks First Person video driving friendly (directional arrows on pipes/ground) and it would be a cool format if you could somehow stream it online. FPV seems pretty popular (/necessary) with drone racing. I guess the downside would be added cost. Maybe manufacturers could get together with IFMAR, ROAR etc. and figure out a RTR/beginner platform like the Slash to get newbies into the hobby but unfortunately due to the profit-motives it seems to mostly be - low-quality beginner kits that will need lots of cheap parts hopped-up/replaced or high grade competition kits where you spend a lot on top of also buying all your own electronics. I think there's a middle balance that they could strike and grow their consumer base.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is going to argue. Oh the TQ10, that takes me back.

Funny story, I just subscribed to RC Car Action Mag. It used to be my bible, as a kid. They've changed their format a bit. Now I donate them to the local track (after reading).

Totally agree on the STEM. This is why I'm getting my 10y/o girl into it. Would love to see the school doing it. But currently trying to get them into a cycling team. Which is a thing here in Colorado. And in other states. It seems like if it's not mainstream, then it's not a stream. Know what I mean? Hey wait, did I just rhyme? HA

Hard for them to do that with Horizon's handcuffs on them.

I've often wondered. When Horizon snatches up these companies - do they leave the company intact? Or do they fire everyone and bring in their own people? Because I know once Horizon gets them, you can no longer contact the company directly. You are simply talking to Horizon at that point, which is really stupid to me.

Welcome to Horizon Hobby customer service where we can fix EVERY R/C issue ever.

Its one guy in his Mom's basement... it might take a few to get an answer back. 🙄 🤣

Doesn't help that HH turned ProLine workers to lazy and don't change their dang product pictures and scam people lol
That seriously p!sses me off!
Its THEIR site! THEY posted the pics...
WHY would they expect anyone to NOT be upset when they recieve a different part from the one they ordered.
If its such a wondetful upgrade or it won't effect anything, be proud of the product.
Don't sell your crap products by advertising a good one.
Thats fraud.
Running change my arse!!!

Yea. PL always says, best quality like what. The old version of my favorite inserts performed better than these new running changed crap ones lol. Can't believe them. We all can rant about Horizon and their faults for years and years and I won't get tired of it lol. 🤣🫠

What's going on Horizon. Like 4 months in of 2025 and still nothing....

One issue is that they have 0 pro team racers anymore. All of em left. So TLR ruined themselves over since they have no one to test out new parts and kits! And to help promote the products! (Because they are old tech now. 🤦🤦)

Don't worry. This is jusy another of Horizon's "running changes".
You won't even notice! 🙄

"Dear Horizon Hobby Team,

I am writing to you today as a concerned member of the RCTalk forum (www.rctalk.com) to express the collective sentiments and anxieties shared by many within our community regarding the recent announcements and direction of the Losi and TLR brands, often referred to as their "new vision" and "new chapters."

Our forum is a vibrant and passionate community of RC enthusiasts, many of whom have a long and dedicated history with Losi and TLR products. We have closely followed the evolution of these brands and have appreciated their innovation, quality, and commitment to the hobby over the years.

Therefore, recent communications hinting at significant shifts in strategy have understandably generated considerable discussion and, in some cases, apprehension among our members. While we understand that businesses must evolve and adapt, there is a prevailing sense of uncertainty about what this "new vision" entails and how it will impact the products, support, and overall direction of Losi and TLR.

Specifically, some of the concerns being voiced on the RCTalk forum include...."

:p :D

I was watching today, and yes, I felt sad for my diehard Losi/TLR fanboy buddy who was probably watching... while balled up in a corner.

The only Losi's I've bought recently were the mini's. RTR JRX2 and mini T 2.0. And surprise HH had a sale on them. IDK. The jury is still out. Kinda cool, but also kinda toy level. A little on the disappointment side. For example, all of a sudden the Tx for the mini t stopped working. I had to shake the Tx to get the mini T radio to work. Like WTH? The mini's are great for winter, indoor, living room tracks.....as long as they keep working. Outdoor? only on concrete I'd say. They just can't take anything even remotely rough or fast. They're just fragile. There are parts for them. But yeah, everything is tiny. E clips are my worst nightmare at this size. :D

I hope they bring back racing winning kits 1/10 scale. That's all I have to say about that.

Comparatively speaking:

My RTR Associated Pro4 SC10= Awesome

My Associated RC10T6.4 = Awesome

Not without a few hiccups of course. But I'm nerdy. Armchair engineer :D

There was a guy at the track with an Xray. Hooking up really good. I'll have to dig more into that brand. Times are a changing....
If losi were allowed to make only 2 vehicles or only allowed to make 7 vehicles for offroad racing ie not new categories but the same categories that have been around for 40 and 20 years...

Hence the two most important vehicles arguably would be the 22T and 22

Irregardless of 2.0 5.0 or what not...

A big problem is all of the other things that RC gets into that thinks itself more important than it's longest running classes

I have listed categorically the most important entries for a manufacturer to consider as well as a hobbyist or racer...

☆2WD Modified Pro Buggy
☆2WD Modified Pro Stadium Truck
☆4WD Modified Pro Buggy
☆1/8 Nitro Buggy
☆Nitro 1/10 2WD Stadium Truck
☆1/8 E Buggy

☆Nitro 4WD 1/8 ANY TYPE
☆Nitro Baja 1/10 Open Class 2WD OR 4WD Buggy, Stadium Truck or SCT

Team Associated is perhaps the only original brand or namesake that is still making entries in all categories listed...

Not to say some manufacturers that are becoming legacy brands aren't also knowing that it's important to stay the course with these categories....

Notice I didn't mention E Truggy Directly as important...
Perhaps it is !!!
But if so the short course truck is the one that just makes it too much and somethings got to give....

This is why I also suggest mix batch or open class racing whereas it is expected to pit different class vehicles that are closely matched as far as overall lap time and driver capability into making it a pre determined race category to be a Baja style race with multiple types in together as a series that is seperate from race classes that are entered as specifically one type... For instance you may even switch vehicles for the Baja series race in event of a failure of one car to immediatly be replaced by your backup vehicle even if it is a different type alltogether as long as it fits the overall requirements...

E-Baja Modified 1/10 Race may be entered by any 1/10 Modified Motor 2S powered vehicle and have up to two backup vehicles on standby or to switch upon new heat or main race

Back to Losi

22T5.0 is the need in 2025

EVEN IF IT'S JUST AN ADITIONAL CONVERSION KIT BOX TO SUPPLIMENT THE 22 KIT!!!

PARTS AVAILABILITY AT EVERY LOCAL TRACK SHOULD BE THE 2ND CONCERN FOR POPULAR MANUFACTURERS !!! THAT THEY ARE MAKING SURE THAT THEY ARE IN STOCK IN AS MANY OR ALL PLACES POSSIBLE AND THAT THEIR INVENTORY /SALES IS BEING MANAGED BY REPUTABLE DEALERS. IF THEY HAPPEN TO BE FINANCING CREDIT OUT THAT IT BE MANAGED PROFESSIONALLY. TO CONTINUE BEING PROFITABLE ENOUGH TO MAINTAIN PRESENCE, THEIR SMALL INEXPENSIVE PARTS ,ALSO BEING ALWAYS IMMEDIATLY RESTOCKED. EVEN THOUGH SEEMINGLY INSIGNIFICANT FOR A $2.00 PART ...IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS A $80.00 PART OR PERHAPS MORE IMPORTANT THE $2.00 PARTS!!!
