Oh, boy. I can almost see how this thread is going to tip toe towards.

Let's not forget who owns Team Associated.
True. None of the mainstream box brands are anything close to what they were when they started out. I'd take a vintage buggy over any of the new stuff from Losi or Associated. If I were racing, I'd definitely go with a Mugen, Tekno, or a Serpent before either of them.

Anyway , back to Losi. Is Losi a totally different entity than TLR? Or are they the same company?
Losi has it roots in racing, and were really competitive back in the 80's and early 90's. Later on Losi and Associated traded hands, and now Thunder Tiger owns Associated, which is a Taiwan based company, and Losi got snatched up by Horizon. Both have gone downhill since. Losi has a few gems, and so does Associated. But for the most part, it's mostly all RTR stuff now. And you just gotta watch what you buy from brands that focus on RTR.

For me, kits is where it's at. Throw a bunch of parts in a box, keep your crap electronics, and let me build it myself I say.

If you want to read into things: I just noticed, while on "Losi" website, adding filters while shopping, a person can be brand specific...

I get the feeling Horizon will try to follow Associated's lead with the vintage stuff. But bringing Losi back to the podium is not something I expect Horizon to be able to pull off, like ever. They are slowly turning themselves into the maker of cheap plastic RC cars for the masses. I just don't see them bringing out anything race grade that anybody will buy to compete with the big boys. Even if they do slap their acquired Losi branding on it. It would be like Kia buying Ferrari and moving manufactiring to Korea. It's never going to be a Ferrari again.

And here is your Kia/Ferrari parts store.

Brings it into perspective huh? I bet the only reason the brands Horizon has snatched up still wear their original branding is so people don't completely turn on them. Just like them owning Tower Hobbies. How much longer will it be before they can close the doors on that one? You know they are probably dying to do so. But the old timers would picket their doorstep. I would probably be a bit upset by it closing myself, and the only reason why is because I grew up with their drool soaked catalogs. But after my generation is gone, they could close the site and nobody would likely notice.

I guess it's no different than Team Associated with their "Element", and "Reedy" names.
Meh. Losi, Team Losi, Team Losi Racing, TLR... it's all "Losi" to me. I'm sure Horizon Hobby has the best intent for what "Pops" and Jr. worked so hard for over the years.

Yeah, good points, all the way around.

Kinda makes you think. In any industry, eventually, as a entrepreneur, you sell. Mainly cuz you're done. You've put in your time. You created something (hopefully great) Time to retire. Or just move on.

And if you're lucky, you get to re-tire your RC's wheels. HA!

The good thing a out being newer to rc's, is I don't remember the good old days, so what I see is what I get, and I'm perfectly happy with that. :)

They haven't release any new kits for a long time. Well in 10th scale I am aware of.
They discontinued their stadium truck and short course platforms so maybe might have a come back.
discontinued the grave digger as well. I'm sad

I need to adopt an outlook similar to this.
I might be happier if I were able to look at each product in a totally fresh light, free of comparison to other r/c products.
Each to stand or fall on its own.

Sweet! Is it still that fresh or are these old pics? Very nice!👌
It's never been run. I have an LST2 and a XXL if I want to bash. The 3XL-E wasn't out very long and is bit hard to find, especially in mint condition.

that aint nitro
Nope. The 3XL-E is electric. Everyone kept converting the earlier models to electric so after the LST XXL-2 (1/8 scale gasoline powered) flopped, they launched the XXL2-E (XXL that came RTR with the electric conversion kit pre-installed) and then after that the 3XL-E which was designed as an electric.

Are Losi RC’s of lesser quality now that they’re owned by HH? I thought I saw that somewhere but I could be mistaken.

I always thought Losi’s were nice back in the day.
The race stuff seems to still be top notch. The rest of their stuff is just "meh" to me. I don't hate it but I also don't feel like it's the same quality as 10+ years ago

But knowing what was great can help better judge what could be great.🤓😅
