It is also possible that the vibration coming through the chassis for the new fan is what is causing issues with the gyro. This is the big reason I try not to fo too many things at once....I made an exception today doing things like if I change the bearings i may as well do the drive shaft etc, while it's already in my hand
 
The bearings you installed are steel, right? They are heavier and slower than ceramic.
I thought there would be no noticible differences but believed my buddy @Littlemotor when he used them on his rigs, they were HUGE!!! Those new bearings roll like bb's on a glass table!

Adding steel bearings over bushings costs weight but gives better tollerances and far better longevity over bushings. Not necessarily faster.
Still a good idea!

Also, adding heavier parts to your rotating mass, like steel driveshafts over plastic will slow you down... BUT your car is now more capable of handling a hotter motor too.

I think your results make some sense.
Break the car in some more and see if those bearings loosen up a bit too. 👍
 
I will say that while not any faster, it is definitely smoother which I appreciate. Still using the factory dogbones, but the amount of play in the rear wheels is reduced with the tighter tolerances in the bearings. I did not expect any massive gains....I was hoping to see 20mph though.

Even with these installed the play in the back required some shim work.

The right size washers needed to be drilled out to fit....back end is perfect though so it's worth it.
Front end did not require the same.
Body had to be raised a little to accommodate slightly larger and more aggressive wheels.

New parts arrived today. Looking to sort out the last of my issues with the tt02. New belt drive system.

this is the initial fitting, some adjustments were made. There are no instructions, some need for shimming and customizing of parts. You will have to heavily modify the original pinion cover inside and out.

Once installed, a little less off the line as expected. Incredibly smooth, and we have finally done it.....22mph!!

The acceleration curve is radically different since these tires feel pretty loose on asphalt. Holding it straight under speed is not as easy. One step at a time.

For anyone who wants to know, this is the belt drive kit I used. https://www.amazon.com/CHRCOED-Tran...ca-b276-c5ad83bda36e&pd_rd_i=B0DK61LMJ6&psc=1
the factory tt02 gears are 22/70. I used the 16/34 belt kit. Slightly less agressive launch gained 3mph. The 16/40 kit is probably similar to stock gearing. Having installed it i would also say it would be easy to use this as a direct drive for a pan car if you make a custom axle

Ran a battery through this today. Ran great the whole time....at the end, the motor is hot, 165 and smells like electrical burning. I assume the belt drive gearing is making it work harder than that motor wants to.
 
Yesterday this got a motor upgrade making it unqualified for any classes I am aware of. But it's so fun the way it is I have decided to leave it and race one of my other cars ...eventually.

I don't think I have enough room in front of my place to call this actual top speed. It did get a lot faster though.

Still running hot. I don't think I had any of these overheating issues prior to putting the chassis cover on. Next time we run without and see if things are better.

I put the motor fan in this position to avoid sucking the chassis cover against it. Without the cover its not spinning at all anyway.

Turns out the magnets in this motor are strong enough it stops the fan until you rotate it to the less magnetic side of the can.

Overheating continues today. Eventually the positive lead to the motor unsoldered itself. It may be time to part ways with the belt drive in favor of more desirable gear ratios
