T-max or Savage or Revo ?

you are gonna get a lot of different answer on this one...lol...
I'm pretty new to the rc thing myself (just got into it last year)...
faced with the same exact question you have i found myself in a position to get all three...
i got them all at the same time...the revo for me...the tmaxx for my GF/Wife...and the savage 4.6 for my step son....
as far as the product as a whole i like either of the traxxas rigs better...a LOT of people are gonna disagree with me on this but i think the traxxas rigs are tougher...which came as a surprise because everything i read about these trucks said the savage was much more durable...but after putting about the same amount of abuse on all three trucks the savage had a lot more components fail than either of my traxxas rigs...plus in my personal opinion the savage is a little more trouble to work on and i basically just don't like the way its set up...now as for the motors....both of my 3.3's have failed after only a gal/gal and a half of fuel...and that great traxxas support everyone goes on about basically told me tough poop...all they would do is sell me a new motor for $110 + my old motor...they wouldn't even discuss replacing anything...as a matter of fact the dude i talked to seemed offended when i asked if there was any change of getting parts replaced or further help...now normally this wouldn't really piss me off but after hearing so much talk of traxxas awesome support and people getting replacement parts FOC i guess my expectations were a little high...but either way i was unsatisfied...note that these engines were not abused...they were broken in just as the manual instructed and i checked them regularly with a heat gun to ensure they didn't overheat...which they never did...now the 4.6 on the savage...i did have a small issue with it but nothing crippling...the spring behind the pin that the starter catches to crank the engine broke...although this did disable the engine it was an easy cheap fix...other than that the 4.6 is still screamin like always...(damn that thing is louder than hell BTW)...so...my conclusion is if you want to just bash the crap out of your rig buy a tmaxx and a proven aftermarket engine....if you want to be a little more on the racing side of things....buy a revo and a proven aftermarket engine...i highly doubt i will ever have another 3.3...but i love my revo and my t-maxx...also doubt ill ever own another savage of any kind unless they change they're entire set up...not that its bad i just don't like it...

the tmaxx and the revo have the same speed and motor..

i disagree...every time i have seen a maxx drag race a revo the revo has lost...now on a track that would surely be the opposite

Thats funny cause they have same speed specs but i know how that goes and there is or was a revo 2.5 so not all the revo's have had the 3.3.... and I was talking about the 3.3 tmaxx and the 3.3 revo they have same motor and specs but i think the weight is different gears might very to not sure but they r rated for same speed.

yea both with 3.3s the tmaxx will smoke a revo in a straight drag race....every time....

I believe the Savage is your better overall option. You get (IMHO) a better truck out of the box, and offers a ton of upgrade options.

Both of the Traxxas trucks however are also great trucks. I just believe that the Savage is going to serve you better in the long run.

Not all models of the T-Maxx have the 3.3. All of the Revos do.

Not true, there was a Revo 2.5.

Quite happy with my maxx . Wouldnt change it for anything except a baja . . . . But thats a hole nother level . My maxx has served me well . Easy to work on easy to upgrade easy to drive . And of course easy to break under full throttle coz there MENTAL . :)

All of the current Revos have the 3.3. A 2.5r T-Maxx is still offered. As far as driveability goes, the Revo is actually the best overall truck. It has a lower CG and is harder to traction roll than both the Savage and the T-Maxx. The Revo is also much stouter than the T-Maxx out of the box, but not quite as stout as the Savage. The Savage is built like a tank and handles like one.

Well... After stewing on it and doing a bunch of reading i went with a T-Max 3.3. The truck is proven its self for all these years and is easy to work on and I'm new at this so to me thats a bonus right there. I've gone through the break in mode and tuning it now. Its pulling hard and may pull some more fuel from the bottom end yet, ill take it out tomorrow again and see. i dont think you can go wrong with any of these trucks. The T-max just seemed like a good choice for me.

I would get a Losi XXL over both. I have the revo and it does handle, but the
Losi is just a beast. Look them with out bodies and you will see why the Losi is my choice, my Revo is a backup.
No Tmaxx....

I love the maxx series trucks !!!! I have 2 3.3s that are reat and 2 classics one with a 3.3 on it and couldnt be happier!!!!!!!!!! Dont get me wrong losi xxl looks like alot of fun to just what like 700 for it or something like that....

LST FTW! :D

@mtaylortank: They are somewhat expensive new, but you also get a Spektrum DX3S which certainly makes the price more attractive. :)

LST's are hands down my favorite monster trucks. However I don't often suggest them when people are trying to start in the hobby or are fairly new to the hobby. They are a high maintenance truck in contrast to something like a T-Maxx. But if proper upkeep and PM service is done on them they are absolute brutes. I wouldn't trade my LST2 for 100 T-Maxx's, Revo's, or Savage's!

quick question...you say the LST are tough but then you say they require a lot of parts maintainence...what maintainence would this truck need that another would not...i understand all these trucks are designed different but the basic parts are pretty well the same...(motor, shocks, bearings, electronics)...if they are such a brute why would they require so much special attention...not being a peepee BTW just makin conversation....;)

Just as an example, the way the LST is designed the center drive shafts use a grub screw that holds the shaft's CV joint to the front/rear diffs. The trans outdrives are also secured with grub screws. If these come loose the shafts will slip and end up tearing up the differentials in a hurry. It's just one of those things you always check before you run and always make sure they're well loctited or covered with some sort of boot that won't let them back out. Other stuff would be such as verifying your slipper is adjusted properly each run so that again you don't damage the diffs or transmission. If you cover your bases well on the preventative maintenance the LST is a problem free truck. If you're the kind of person who abuses their equipment, never looks at it until it's actually broken, the LST will be the biggest nightmare of a truck to own for that type of person.

A lot of it boils down to the person and there use for it drive habits and so on some people say chevy is better than ford or visea versa. They can all be upgraded to be close to equal it depends on do you want to get quality out of the box (spend it now) or buy an ass load of parts over time.I would like traxxs if they came without a raidio or engine.I feel losi is a more competive: vehical.:D

Actually as far as ease of use and maintenance is concerned, the Revo is actually easier to drive and maintain.

I own a t-maxx 3.3 and a savage 4.6 the tmaxx is easy to get to all the parts however thats the thing you brake so much on it you learn the whole thing inside and out.the tmaxx i have a full roll cage aluminum: bulk heads, shock towers, shock caps and rpm skid plates and arms and the savage will still out do my tmaxx I love to bash and I wouldnt trade my savage. All around i would def go with the savage.the only thing i would swap would be the cv axles i love the tmaxxs the savages is very thin and not can bend

Yeah I agree the lst is not to much for beginners although you would think it would be... but either way I would like 1 or 3 of each diferent model and I will give opinion on al after the test drives l.o.l. and w.bill had it right it all depends on what you want to do with them where you drivem to determine which is best for you

ok so what you are telling me is the lst is not as tough and requires more preventative maintainence....doesn't sound like a beast to me....not sayin its not a fun truck but why would you want something that you have to always inspect before you take off....
