Hi everybody I need a lil help with this..so I was running my buggy the other day and I was messing with the brakes next thing I know I'm sitting there and my buggy starts to smoke so then it cuts off and I check the buggy but didnt see were it was coming from so the next day I try to run it and it really wouldnt go because the spur gear is melted in a couple spots and my clutch housing sprocket is blue and gold like it got hot or sumthing..SO CAN SOMEBODY PLS HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPEN..THANKS

Don't know how things are set up on your buggy but it sounds like the slipper was slipping too much and created enough heat to melt your spur and discolor the other parts.

Lol I'm sorry I'm new to this but can you tell me what is the slipper??and how can I fix it??

+1 on Jay's post. I would tighten up the slipper clutch if that is how your buggy is set up and see if the problem goes away.

Sorry I was a little late on your last post. The slipper clutch is the way a lot of cars adjust how much power is put to the ground so to speak. The way most work is that there is a nut in the center of the spur gear that you tighten up to a set tightness. If it is too tight it puts extra stress on the drivetrain, but if it's too loose the slipper clutch will just slip when you accelerate. For most you will tighten it all the way down then back the nut off 1/8 to 1/2 a turn depending on the vehicle. I can't say that your buggy for sure even has a slipper, so if you could post a picture of the setup you have one of us could definitely be of more assistance.

I have my buggy right here what do you need a pic of..thanks for the help..

If you could take a picture of the clutchbell and spur gear , both an up close picture and a broader picture of the area if possible.

Ok I'm bout to try and up load the pics I never did it on here be4 so if you know how lol just tell me how to do it..and my buggy is all stock not even a gallon through it yet and its a exceed hyperspeed offroad 4wd buggy 1/10 .16 engine..

Ok well I looked up pictures online and from what I could tell your buggy does not have a slipper clutch. Knowing that I honestly cannot tell you what the problem may be. I would check to see if the clutch shoes on the engine may be bad creating excessive heat or maybe a broken clutch spring.

How can I tell if one or the two are bad I'm looking at the clutch shoes and spring right now..

It's not the slipper clutch, it's your engine clutch. Your engine clutch was slipping so bad that it melted the plastic spur gear. You need new bearings for it, and may need a new clutch too. Sometimes you can sand the clutch and bell with sandpaper to fix this problem.

How can I test my clutch bearings, and clutch to see which one is bad?

checking the bearing, Try to removed the engine from the car , 1st rotate the cb bt your finger to see if it rotates perfectly(there should be no wiggles) and try to hold and push and pull the cb there should be not traveling front and back. For the clutch you to removed the cb to inspect the physical appearance of the clutch shoe and the inner side of the cb if there's too much scratch cahnge it, and clheck if the spring are still in good condition. and if you thinks its all good assemble again, put it back and put new spur gear, to try again. if its all ready try to start the see if your car accelerate good equivalent to the engine sounds, after 1 fast run check the cb if its too hot if yes, change the clutch shoe and spring. I hope this can help you.

When the buggy was running was it running normally? Were you getting full speed out of it? I am thinking you had a bind in your running gear that may have caused the clutch to slip and over heat.

More information would help in diagnosing the problem.

Yeah if you have any drag in your driveline that can also cause the problem. you can start by checking/replacing you clutch shoes and/or clutch bearings but if it still does it then I would say check the bearings and anything else in your driveline that could be causing excessive friction. Had that happen in my LST2 one time. Ended up being 4 bad bearings in the Transmission.

Also dont forget to make sure you get your gear mesh right when you put your clutch back together and you go to put your motor back on.

Ok guys thanks for the reply..i check the clutch bell for sratchs and its only 1 line going around the entire inside of it thats it for the inside..and be4 I took it off it only had a lil play wen I was pullin it frim the clutch shoes but it wasn't to were u seen the shoes though..and the clutch shoes suppose to been white I guess but it looks like its a burn spot or sumthing on 1 of the shoes and the spring seems to be tight still..and the only problem I had when I first got it is that it wouldnt do full throttle it would bogged out and when I brake it almost cuts off..so I was trying to set the setting wen the spur gear burned up and right be4 it burned up the car kept tryin to take off so I held the brake and thats wen I start seein all the smoke..

The clutch is probably useable, but if the bell turned blue and melted the spur I'd say it needs to be inspected and scuffed to help it grip better.

Bad bearings are easy to diagnose, and a "tick" of back and forth end play in the clutch bell is ideal.

+1, check the driveline, you may have issues there as well.
