Spekies are known for their range issues. Just wish we could have told you that before you got it. Welcome to the forum!

Cupooter, would you mind expanding on this a bit for me please ?

It's not a callout on ya so please dont think it is, It's just I'm interested in this issue as I run spektrum myself & I am about to drop the dollar on a brand new spektrum setup.

Whats the issues with spektrum ? Is it just the new ones or all of them.

My DX2 and DX3.0 seem ok and without range issues but that's within the confines a 100ft radius though...

Using a Spektrum that is using the older DSM is like gambling. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you loose. No rhyme or reason why. It just happens.

I have seen guys use a DX3 and never have a problem with range. I have also seen guys have all kinds of problems. There is also the issue with unbinding.

Now the newer DSM2 seems to be a lot better, but I still will not trust it with a high dollar RC. For that I am a diehard Futaba FASST fan.

I do use a DX3R for crawling. No way it can loose the signal with the rig is only a few feet away from me. LOL

I used a DX3 (not the DX3.0) last season and I had intermittent issues with it. Every now and again it would just randomly glitch. Sometimes it was a 2 foot dead spot on the track, sometimes it was 1/4 of the track....really depended on what was going on around me I think.

I got fed up...sold the TX to one guy...and my 4 RXs each to different people. It worked GREAT in my yard, just at my track for some reason...it was hit or miss. I bought a brand new DX3R....problem seems to be solved, so could have just been the older DSM traffic was getting skippy with all the DSM2 traffic. Not sure. It worked awesome until there were more than a few Spektrums driving at a time.

I gave up trying to solve it.

most people say the 1/5 scale or large do not work well with spektrum....maybe thats what he meant? I have a spektrum system (dx3.0) and no issues at all. I also have the new Futaba 3pmx and no issues. its like Robmob said, its hit or miss with range isssues.

I have a dx3s and i have yet to have any range problems, but like savagefan said it may be with the larger scale. . .which i don't have. . .yet

I have the JR (just re-branded) version of the DX2. While I have not had issues I have noticed there are more threads about Spektrum issues then all others combined. Still gonna get one for my crawler though...

Boy do I have a weird story for you.

I was driving my XXL in a parking lot when my dx3s lost bind when the truck was no more than 25-30 feet away. Brought it back inside and tried everything to get it to bind......nothing. Messed around with it some more and in my haste I must've connected the battery wrong, because it released the magical blue smoke. Crap.......... clearly something had burned out and there was a black spot on the pcb, damn.

Just for the hell of it I tried connecting it up right and it lives, well the little LED was glowing amber. Tried to put it in bind mode, success. And whataya know, it suddenly decided it wanted to bind again. WTF.

Explain that one if you can. :)

btw. the receiver is still alive and kicking in my 1/16 slash, bought a new one for the XXL, didn't fully trust it.

Been running the DX3.0 for a while now and have run around 2 other guys, one with DX3 the other with DX2. All I've noticed is that I no longer suffer the glitching I used to have with AM/FM and my range is further than I can see everywhere I have driven it. I think I bought one of moto god's receivers and it works fine for me.

The only thing I can think as to why there are so many people with issues is because of so many sold? Considering the cost of the spektrum to other brand just 2-3 years ago, Spektrum was the way to go. Now it's a much more cluttered market as the other brands bring prices down.

Just a thought... Kind of like toyota's, sell 2 million of anything and defects are bound to crop up... just less life threatening with our radios. In most cases. ;)

Dang man, why do you have to call me out on every little thing?

jk, lol :D

No problems dude. I have just seen too many cases both on this forum and over on HBF (which granted is a lot more active than RCNT) where Spek systems have failed to trust them. I'm not going to talk anyone out of their loyalty to the system, but I will never buy it or recommend it myself.

As to the issues, I have really only seen them in the older DX2/DX3 systems. The newer DX3r/s systems don't seem to have as many problems, and many people over on HBF run them without problems in their 5th scale rigs.

Spektrum follow up

I read all the reply's and this is a brand New Spek SPM20310 Spektrum DX3.0 DSM 3 Channel Radio w/SR300 Receiver (No Servos) and Brand new batteries in both rx & tx. The throttle return spring was an oversite and is now installed. I sent the Radio back to A Main Hobbies , but they refused to take it back,And said they are sending it back to me, saying they only store credit if its New and unused. I told them I can't tell if its a good product I want to keep by looking at the picture on the box and if thats the best they can do for me than I will purchase elsewhare from now on . Haven't heard back from them yet.I called Horizon Hobbies ,who is surprisingly unaware of the problems we have discused and suggested I send them the Radio at there cost so they can test it.:\

Well, at least they are willing to take a look at it for you. Horizon is pretty good from what I've read. If it's actually bad, I bet they will send you a new one.

I have seen a few Spektrums just loose a vehicle and send it free to roam. I saw a Kyosho Inferno truggy take off full throttle across a field heading for the ocean. Luck would have it I was running with the guy at the time and my Savage was a good bit faster so I was able to crash in to him and roll the sucker before it slept with the fishes. It did it twice that day....a couple other times I have had seen issues. My trust is just not there for them.

I found out that we have an RC Airfield less than 1 mile away. I wonder if the 2.4Ghz is flooding the airwaves sometimes when they are out flying. No idea. My spektrum stuff NEVER glitched at home or at other tracks....just the track I run all the club races at. I never could explain it!

I'd be fine for morning practice EVERY single time. Qual 1 was usually perfect, however qual 2 and 3 and the main was always a 50/50 chance it would glitch randomly. My best guess is the airfield was somehow making my DX3 flake out here and there.

I can't think of anything else that would cause it. I'm convince my radio was in perfect working order since there was visible rhyme or reason for it to glitch. We'll find out next weekend if my new DX3R suffers from the same stuff...I surely hope not!
