After commenting on a thread discussing the LMT earlier, I had the itch to go watch some clips from my racing days and figured I would share. My trucks are Venom and Bigfoot, both LMT based Hackfab Starfighter chassis missles. My son is running in the young guns class with his Mad Scientist SMT10.

That's pretty cool! I 3d printed some ramps for our 24th scale monster truck to run like a Monster Jam race. Do they do any freestyle stuff?

When the club was together, we would do Freestyle at the end of big race events. The one I was fortunate enough to compete in was on concrete and it was a carnage fest lol.

I've loved monster trucks since I was a kid. A local garage here had one. I first saw them on the tv show 'That's Incredible' (1983). The very first ever monster truck race. They maybe got up to 10 mph lol. They actually crushed the cars they drove over, very slowly. They weren't pre-smashed at all. It was Bigfoot vs USA-1. Bigfoot won of course 😁

Nice! I was MT obsessed as a kid as well. My parents took me to every show they possibly could in the early 90s. We also vacationed in the Outer Banks and no trip to the beach was complete without a stop by Digger's Dungeon.

I drove by Tom Meent's place a few times in Illinois. I actually drove close to his house on my way to work every day, and would sometimes take the long way home. I always wanted to stop by and say hi, because I got the feeling he wouldn't care and would be very hospitable, but I never did. He was my favorite driver along with Dennis Anderson. I just loved that rivalry. It's funny that Breydon's favorite is Sun of a Digger 😄

The mad scientist that did the first double flip??? I'm so jealous of your rigs.
I was thinking about getting that body and throwing a few stickers on to make it similar to the scientist
I'm still on just the one king sling. I'm trying to find a smt roller or slider so I can enter in at least one more class.
I still have so much to learn!!

@xjtorc hey broly, i was hoping you could help a crawler out? i know nothing about these monster trucks lol, i know a little bit about crawling but I'm thinking the differences are probably pretty large.
I'm gonna rattle off a few burning questions i have in the hopes youll e able to clear them up and possibly point me in the right direction.
servo savers... are they all the same?
servo upgrades. is it the same as a crawler? I'm wanting to get an nsdrc servo for it as i need power enough to turn these big honkin wheels (one of the other racers was using a reefs raw 500, another was using the red 25k amazon servo, i want power and speed right?
what about shocks? i like desert lizards for my crawlers, but most peoples crawlers arent trying to land jumps like mine lololol
would bigger shocks be better? what kind did/do you use on your mt's?
I'm currently shopping for mega truck upgrades for the king sling, the factory shocks keep leaking, this will be my second time replacing/repairing them and id like a set that was slightly less maintenance. would DL's work just fine? or am i looking for external spring big bore shocks like would be on say a big rock?
could you shoot me a few under the hood shots so i can see the shocks and servo so i can get some ideas?

I could talk all day on this topic!! I’ve built a handful of really fast LMTs for myself and my buddies and they all have race wins to their names. I’m going to give you my absolute best recommendations based on what works/worked for me.

Servo saver: Treal saver. Black spring. Tightened all the way down.
*Add CPE stainless steering links (their plastic rod ends act as the weak link and take the shock out of the servo when smashing into something head on)

Servo: MKS HBL-550
*or buy the most servo (highest torque/fastest) you can for your money and make sure to program the BEC to get as much voltage to it as possible. Amazon servos don’t fair well in the LMT.

Steering tip: Get rid of the stock wheels and tires. They weigh a full pound more than a set of Renegades mounted on Tributes and all that weight is hard on any servo.

Shocks: Most hate to believe it, but the stock LMT shocks are actually incredible performers for the weight of a stock chassis truck. Rebuild them with the Losi 22 x-ring kit TLR233005, add silicone grease of your choice throughout to prevent leaking. Start with stiff springs, 30wt oil, and remove all preload to raise the lower links in parallel with the ground.

If you want to make an investment and have an even better performing truck, replace the lower links with trailing arms and mount a set of GMade Aeration 103mm shocks on the trailing arms instead of over the axle. Stiff springs, 40wt oil…it’ll turn on a dime and handle like a rabid chihuahua. (Setup pictured below)

My race trucks were carbon HackFab Starfighters but my freestyle truck ran the stock shocks, built with x rings but different oil, spring, and preload settings.

I also reccommend Treal upper links to remove all the lateral slop from the LMTs sloppy stock links. Here’s a before and after example:

That's awesome bro thanks so much that's got me on the hunt!!
I have heard that hackfab name before I am going to look at them
All I've seen is team prp stuff
Which honestly looks fantastic

The PRP stuff does look pretty sweet. Maybe over complicated but idk. Haven’t seen it in person, yet.
