So, What R/C Did You Run Today?

I just came in from running some laps on the backyard course with my Rlaarlo SBK10. I got a new heavy-duty speaker cord for my VoiceLap set up to replace the one I destroyed in a crash last week. When I plugged it into my cheap portable speaker, the jack pushed into the body of the speaker. I took it apart to find the (cold) solder joints on the speaker's circuit board were the only thing holding the jack in place. I tried to re-solder it but failed.

So... I broke out my nice, old TDK Trex Max speaker and hooked that up. The battery took forever to charge and then died in about three minutes. The old NiMH pack (a replacement for the original) in the speaker was shot. So I had to drag out a lead cord and keep it plugged in. I can get a new portable rechargeable speaker for less than the price of a new NiMH pack for the Trex Max, so I guess I'll order one and relegate the nice Trex Max for corded use for now.

In the meantime, I'm going to run the Rival MT10 V2 and compare its 2S and 3S lap times to those of the SBK10 (3S).

Thats a lot of work for a little speaker! 🤣

This should be interesting! :thumbs-up:

After all that, I was hoping for "interesting" but got "frustrating" instead.

I always bragged on the Voice Lap System and how well it works... it had literally never missed registering a lap time using it with three different transponders in three different vehicles. Pretty impressive.

That all ended this afternoon. It wouldn't consistently record one of my vehicles passing by it. So I tried another. Same. So I installed a fresh battery in the unit. Same. I'm heartbroken... I loved the thing and now it's hardly any fun running vehicles around the backyard course.

I just sent an e-mail to Zeppin (in China) but I don't really have high hopes on them taking action. They only list one US dealer, Brooklyn Hobbies, and they don't have the Voice Lap listed on their scant web site. I bought the unit directly from Zeppin on eBay and it shipped from California, but they no longer have a listing on the US eBay site. They do have the item listed on eBay.ca, also shipping from California.

Mmmmmm... Might need to get Led involved. 🤔😁

Bummer about that lap system! I do hope they have an alternative unit or repair center. It sounded like a good set up.

Seems like if its avail in California, it would be availible anywhere.
I bet it causes cancer there. 🤣

It is so much fun to have a timing system at home! The thing was unbelievably consistent and functional. Until it suddenly wasn't.

It was so inexpensive ($50 to my door) and I had so much enjoyment from it, I'll try another one if they don't respond or offer to replace mine. Heck... I already have two extra $14 transponders. I hate throwing good money after bad, but maybe it was unusual for it to fail. Who knows.

I'm surprised at the lack of user reports/experiences on line. Some on line reviewers gave it favorable press, which was what prompted me to take a chance in the first place.

I received an immediate response from Zeppin. They offered to replace the unit for $10, plus $10 shipping (without me needing to send mine back to them). Not a bad thing... if I had to send my non-functional unit back to them, I figure it would have been twenty bucks worth of time, packaging, a trip to the post office and postage.

They asked if I wanted to proceed and I let them know I did. I'll report later when the process is completed.

As for this part of my fun on the track...

In the meantime, I'm going to run the Rival MT10 V2 and compare its 2S and 3S lap times to those of the SBK10 (3S).

The MT10 seemed to actually be faster (I won't know for sure until my lap timer is replaced) which I believe is solely due to a traction advantage. My backyard course is mostly grass which becomes mostly flattened down from running the cars on it.

The big, wide, soft tires of the MT10 grip well and the truck will wheelie on hard acceleration and can sometimes traction roll if pushed too hard in cornering. The SBK10, on the other hand, will experience excessive wheel spin in hard acceleration and will spin out if pushed too hard in cornering. I think it would easily smoke the MT10 on a hard clay dirt or paved surface.

Both are plenty of fun to run around the course, but way more fun when I am able to hear each lap time announced from the Voice Lap system.

Found a sweet spot to mess around.
The pumpkin got wedged in and had to call in the Rockhound Wrecker for an Extraction.
Damn wreckers cost an arm and a leg out here.

Wall rides are so fun. Wish more indoor tracks have them these days.

Anyways,
Self explanatory. Pit chaos as always.

Little known fact:
Bbq sauce can be used as diff lub but the sauce needs to test for 1 week after application.

Use french fries instead of earplugs. :thumbs-up: 🤣

Are you gonna be racing regularly again?

I miss your posts!

Yea I'm slowly getting back into it. Yesterday I brought 2 broken cars and fixed them up in-between qualifiers.
Last time before yesterday I did any kind of RC was like 2 months ago.
Mostly going to be track and racing. Bashing isn't really my thing anymore but might do it once in a blue moon or for testing

I mean should be thick enough for high traction. Might test that out next time! 🤣

Most of the time I'm running my bashers in the back yard, I'm imagining a 'track' to run them on. I'm not into big air really.
I still enjoy them even though I'm not getting double back flips of of 25' jumps. Lol!
I can relate.

My Mid is just about done being built and I have a new car on the way that NEEDS a track.

I am so close to racing again! Very exciting!

Just don't forget to let it rest a week to increase CST rating!

At least if you fry the gears, they will be delish! Lol!

Hi everyone, How's it going? It's been a very busy time and a pretty dark day where i currently live since we're getting our current house ready to sell in a week or so. Today i took my Slash 4x4 Ultimate out for a little test drive with radio to make sure everything still works sorry i didn't get a pic of after my short run. I might get out a couple more times to run my cars before they get packed up for our cross-country move to Tucson, Arizona.
