I have just replaced the stock HPI R5 glow plug in my rush (after run in) and after 15ins of running with the new plug.......no more run time, after examining the plug the coil had broken...it looked quite messed up actualy.

Anyone know what would have caused this?? and while I'm at it can anyone recommend a replacement (brand and number)....I am a little confused about what type of plug to use in the Rush's .15 engine.

Thanks in advance

What nitro percentage of fuel? Did you have the engine head off recently? If you did, did you remember to put the head shims back on?

A compressed GP coil is usually indicative of too high of compression or too high of nitro %.

I was using 20% odonnel rtr, the engine is alsmost new so I haven't strippede the engine down yet.......someone has suggested I was running too lean, could this be true??

Cheers

Too lean doesn't usually compress the coil up into the glowplug. Too lean breaks the glow plug coil.

Too rich leaves the coil wet and black as well as the tip of the plug.

the coil was broken......I think it may have been down to running too lean, damn I hope I haven't done tooo much damage to the engine???

Was the coils white lookin? If there is any white color on them yes you was runnin to lean. You got a little too hot and burnt them. Had that to happen in my rush when i was breakin it in.

HEY GUYS!

BAck onto this problem...managed to get a couple of OS 8 plugs, all was well got about 5 tanks through and then engine would not start. I tested the ignitor on another new plug and it glowed red hot so it appears the plug is busted but this time there appears to be no damage to the coil (still shiney metal)....I was running the engine 1/8 th of a turn in from 3 turns out so it was on the richer side in an attempt not to smash up the plug as I had done previously by running too lean.....this is getting expensive and annoying, all comments greatly appreciated.

cheers

sometimes it's just bad luck mate. I went through that stage had about 3 odd plugs go on me with 2-3 tanks. Just change the type of plug or buy the same type w,e

plugs can just go bad. lets go back to the point of it being new. Alot of new engines will eat glow plugs cause the yhave so much compression.

If three month old fuel is waterlogged than my car is f!@# in the head.
My car has been running on fuel that is three years old.
(The reason it is so old is that my mom got me some fuel and my dad kept on putting off getting me a car for three years)

If it stays sealed, especially in a tin container, it lasts a lot longer. But once you have a bottle/can open, it allows more air to be in the container which has humidity in it and gets absorbed into the fuel.

I've had 6 month old fuel go stale on me because I forgot about it in the closet and it was only 1/4 gallon left in a gallon plastic fuel jug. It didn't run worth a crap.
