Hello.

I need some help in figuring out what pinion to use on my sledge with the stock 52t spur, with a castle 1650kv motor.

Now I’ve used the substantive method of getting an idea what gearing I should be going for, which is

2000/1650 = 1.2
Stock pinion is 13
1.2x13 = 15.6

And this tells me I should be shooting for
15-16t pinion for similar speeds as stock.

But when I googles this, I get from 14-23t pinion suggestions from reddit, facebook etc.

What do you all suggest?

The new stock pinion size for a Sledge is 16t. I have a Castle 1717 in mine and run a 23t. I've run the truck with a 20t for a while and it felt lethargic at the dirt park (slow backflips). With a 23t pinion your motor will run warm but shouldn't overheat. I wouldn't go any higher.

Do I really need to gear up that much? Dang. I was thinking an 18t pinion would be a good balance but I guess not. I think I have a 20t, but would need to order anything larger.

If you got a 20T pinion on hand... slap that thing on there. Everybody's driving style is different. Let your trigger finger and infrared thermometer guide you.

yeah.webp
