I've been doing the same... watched a tons of videos and got great ideas... my challenge is that I am trying to build it for free (recycled wood etc) or very inexpensive and that's very tricky. This is what I have so far, all from free materials, this will eventually be the second level but I figured start here since is smaller. I'm currently building a spiral "staircase" for the trucks to go to this level... hope it comes out good!

It's literally 200 ft long and a 20 ft elevation change. Very quiet and unpopulated.
Color me green with envy. Whatever happened to that camp site you were playing with? I seem to remember you tossing some rocks around there.
Closed for winter. Nice spot for the mini-crawler. I'll be back there in May.
We finally got some snow here, like 8" on the ground, with piles that would be great to bash around on, but my kid won't be here til Friday. But I am betting the above freezing temps thursday and friday, along with rain friday is going to have it gone by the time my kid gets here friday evening
I used cardboard boxes hot glued together and spray foam over that. You can cut to shape or leave as is, and paint as you see fit.
I used to have pictures of railroad scenes that had cool scenery that I would try to mimic in my dioramas back in my 20's. Every pic you post would make a cool addition to a collection of references like that.
