RC Driving Style
HEY all its me. I got a tuning question. Ok here is goes i run a hyper 7 pbs with the stock motor. I start her up give it a few blips everything seems good. Then i take it off the starterbox and drive it aroud. Seems real good so i deide to try a couple WOT passes in the street. Starting to eccelerate its looking good but as i ease intro the throttle it cuts down and drives slower. It seems like the second i reach a certain rpm it bogs down and drives at like 1/2 throttle when I'm pulling full throttle. I assume it was a lean bog so check the temp and its only 162F. So I'm stummed and need a little help. Thanks guys.

If it starts to bog, it's usually a sign that the HSN is too rich. If it were too lean, it would cut out quickly. Lean the HSN about 1/16, and run it WOT again. It should behave better. Lean it again as necessary till you're getting good high end.

The temp is around 70F. So i need to lean the HSN 1/16 till it stops bogging down at WOT?

Sure you are talking about the motor? Never temped any of my engines at idle at 70. NEVER. Even in cold weather. Then it would not even start till I warmed the head up.

Yupp thats were the 70F comes in. Thats the outside temp sorry i didnt tell you earlier. So what do i need to do to be able to run WOT without bogging down? Its the HSN? The engine temp is 162.

yea lean the HSN a bit at a time, your temp should be around 220-240 if you are trying to go WOT

Sounds like it is too rich on the HSN. At half throttle the LSN needle may be all the way out so you are running purely on the HSN. Lean the HSN and be prepared to richen the LSN to compensate.

Oh, okay. I was wondering how it would run at all at 70.
Give us a temp read on the engine when it's up to temp.

K lol my engine is warmer than 70 when it hasnt been run :), maybe not quite but close to

ofna, if your motor has been run in try doing this
warm your engine up by running it around, put your car on a stand where the wheels arent on the ground, give the car a quick rev taking it up, to max rev for a second, keep leaning the hsn out till you reach best revs and pickup, DONT HOLD THE THROTTLE OPEN FOR LONG SPELLS 2-3 seconds max, once you have max revs to pro tect your engine back the needle off about 1/8th of a turn to richen it up a little, this is the way i and alot of us over here race tune our engines, though for a bigger event i tend not to richen it back up so much

Thats the problem i can't get up to WOT. It cuts out like half throttle. Can someone tell me good ballpark are to reset my HSN. I want to atleast be able to get it up to full throttle. Could there be an air leak. Would i be able to get up to half throttle if there was? If so what solution do you reccomend to plug the leak?

i would go about 4 and a half on the hsn and 3 on the low,
what i would be doing is lean the hsn about half a turn, then follow the affore mentioned meathod, basically you are going to have to get it lean enough o get through, may also be the low end needle is a little rich and is half flooding the engine before it can clear

4 1/2? THats break in settings. Ill give it a go and see what happens? You dont think i got a leak? Ill let ya know..

Definitly sounds rich. 162??

How much fuel have you run through the engine? Is it fully broken in?

A cold engine with lots of fuel running through it (to rich) will kill the glow plug. It makes it wet so it won't stay hot. Then it instantly dies on you. Get it tuned so you can get the temps at the glowplug up over 200, then tune for power. Unless your still breaking it in. You still need to get the temps up over 200. But keep it in the low 200's for break in.

I wondered if he was running refrigerated fuel or was giving temps in celcius.
Still waiting to hear what the temp is when it's just idling. Let it idle till the temp stops rising, and let us know what it's at. That will help us to determine what you need to do next.
