Santa brought my son and I some nitro trucks... I got the T-Maxx and he got the Stampede... I've installed a temp sensor and a fail-safe in both trucks and they are Ready To Go... However, my LHS has offered to do the break-in for free... I've looked at the instructions for break-in for both trucks and it is almost identical... It doesn't look like rocket science. I think I can do it myself... It would probably be a good experience for both of us to break in our own trucks... Is there a good reason I should let my LHS do it for me? Besides, if I come across anything I don't understand, I can always ask you guys!!! (and gals)... :D

My lhs does this too, but I think its a good learning experience to do it your self and no its not rocket science. Just do it by the book and you should be good.

Or, if they will do it, will they do it with you there? If they will, then I'd suggest having them break in one of the rigs for you, while you watch and ask questions, then do the other yourself.

Regardless, it's not hard to do, just tests your patience. Especially if your new. If they won't let you watch/learn, then I wouldn't bother with letting them do it.

+1 to that ^^^! My LHS helped me with the proper break in procedures for my Revo. They just took me outside with another truck they were breaking in and let me annoy them the whole time. Some real good guys.

Well... Called my LHS on Monday to see if they could 'fit me in' for a break-in on Tuesday... found out that they ONLY do it on Saturday... So, my son and I went to the local park and I did his first (so he could run while I was doing mine)... It was pretty easy and everything worked ok... the only problem is my son kept turning too sharp on the asphalt and flipping/cartwheeling his stampede... Long story, short (too late)... On about the 50th flip/cartwheel, he finally broke something... Oh, well... $11.50 in parts (that should arrive soon) and he'll be good as new (until he breaks it again)... On the plus side, I only flipped my T-Maxx once (and it was a slow-motion, slow-speed flip)... These things are a BLAST!!! :)

I don't really agree with the "normal" break in procedure, but we won't discuss this here.

Whenever you break something, buy two of them.:)
Good idea... If he breaks it again, I'll see if it's available in anodized aluminum...

I don't either, but I just went along with it for the benefit of the engine warranty... I'm sure they'll ask if I followed the break-in procedure... :)

all you need to do is drive it around smoothly, only going partial throttle.... fancy techniques are a bunch of hocus pocus.

It's all about getting it up to temp(180-240)and back down agian without running it too hard. Bottom dead center during cooling is essential.

Yep! Traxxas's breakin procedure is not that bad actually. Just remember to allow it to cool completely inbetween the first 6 runs.

Sort of... I installed the on-board temp gauges and made sure they were running 240-260 during the runs and would let them cool to below 100 before cranking them up again for the next break-in procedure... Been a little cold here the last couple of days (31 degrees F as a high - definitely not what I'm used to)... Maybe in about 10-12 days I'll be able to take them back out again (temp should exceed 50 by then)... :D
