NovaRossi is back in Business as of 2024 they have been producing Nitro Engines Massimo Rossi the grandson of the Founder is reviving the company with that being said the AD3 or RD2 are Popular Engines at my Track so there are plenty of people there who can help out with them if I need the help the track is a well maintained hard packed lightly dusty clay track out at Rocck Racing in Knoxville Tennessee the layout changes every few months but the straight away is pretty consistent in being able to punch full throttle for a few seconds in an eBuggy or eTruggy and not sure if I would go to a Nitro Truck or not as I'm just getting into Nitro with the Buggy I've been running Electric for a couple years now and not sure about the reds engines yet I've heard and seen people have trouble with the tuning and with just starting out I'm looking for something a little easier to tune to learn what I'm doing and I've heard that O.S in general but specifically the AD3 or RD2 are easy to tune I've also heard that NovaRossi is similar in ease of tuning as O.S but not as high of a Price point
Right-not Novarossi, and they’re the first to point that out. That’s why I asked, as if you’re after a legitimate Novarossi, then your experience would be as I explained above.
Nova engines on the other hand have been working the bugs out since they began production, and are finally beginning to make some decent progress. I personally would not be buying an engine from them just yet-but that’s me.
The reason I asked about the Drake offerings vs the OS offerings is because of the bore and stroke differences. All of the current OS Speed motors are long stroke, and are well suited for both buggy AND truck. The Drake stuff is quite a bit softer on the bottom due to their shorter stroke blueprint. This is why I asked if you had planned to ever use it in truck.
The Nova engines tune much closer to the rest of the Italian engines-Picco, OG Novarossi, GRP, Reds, OPS, etc.. they’re not “worse” than OS, or harder-just respond differently to adjustment. I’m an Italian guy for decades myself, but have experience with the OS stuff as well, and have recently decided to only purchase OS Speed based engines in the future.
I asked about the straightaway length because the softer, more linear bottom end, Drake offerings will rev out higher that the long stroke engines. So if your straightaway is 175ft or longer, I’d probably go with the AD3 (being it does generate dust as you said), or even a modified long stroke to smooth out the bottom, and move the redline up a bit. This would be much easier on your rod.
Either way-you cannot go wrong with ANY current OS Speed based engines, but when spending this kind of money, it’s best to choose the proper candidate for the job too.
