Just a quick easy question. What grit sandpaper should I use when I rough up my clutch shoes and CB? Got the rig all tore apart, gave it a decent cleaning and while i have it apart, may as well start tinkering with a fer things and begin learning the ins and outs!

i used a round file to make vertical groves in the CB, don't sand the CS's coz the grooves will rough them up enough. On 2 wheels now!

The carbon shoes will glaze over smooth, causing slippage. You need to LIGHTLY scuff them with anything abrasive for a few seconds, just enough to remove the burnt/shiny material.

Well I got the sand paper, a decent round file and the denatured alcohol. Went to work on the clutch shoes and that went well. Tried to scuff up the CB and that was a different story. Them stock CB's are TOUGH! Started with the round file and not even a scratch. Went to a flat file, again not even a scratch. Tried sand paper and again nothing. I tried everything i could think of just shy of using the rota-zip on it and it wont even scratch. If the teeth on the outside are anywhere near as tough as the inside, I'll never have to worry about replacing it unless I change to a different tooth count. Now to wait for the new exhaust gasket to cure and I should be back up and running. Well, here's hoping anyhow, lol.

How often should this be done?

Hi until reading all this I didn't know anything about roughing up the clutch how often should this be done. Thanks.

Check it every so often to see if it's glazed over (starting to get shiny). If it has a glossy look on it, just simply use a piece of sand paper on it until it has a flat dull finish. This will help it grab better instead of slipping so much and help increase your hole shots. It doesn't take much to scuff them up, just a few seconds on each of the pads will do it.
