I am about to start building my DSK kit and I am going for the dual battery configuration.

Any recommendations for the minimum and maximum capacity of the lipos for 1/8 buggy in general and for DSK specifically ?

I am looking at the dimensions of the trays

It's as if they built it around the CNHL hard case which goes from 5200mah to 9000mah. (1mm margin can't be a coincidence)

I went for the 2x 9000mah (cuz apparently I need to compensate for something and at my skill level an extra 150gr should be barely noticeable).
What are you guys running and what would be your min/max capacity if you were ordering a couple of packs specifically for the DSK ?

The DSK is relatively heavy. I run the single battery compartment configuration in my roller and use 4S 5200mah, 5S 4500mah, and 6S 6200mah batteries in mine for racing around the back yard grass/dirt course and light bashing in a large gravel parking lot.

140x48mm is (not just CNHL) the normal dimensions for hard case LiPo packs.

With somewhat of a typical buggy load out and on 4S, a 5200mah pack would get you close to 15 minutes of runtime. Motor, driving style, LVC practices, and terrain will all be factors.

With 9000mah packs... I would think you should see runtimes out the wazoo.

Technically, the battery trays for the DSK we're not "built around" specific battery/batteries. What you can use will partly depend on whether you do the rear motor (ie. single Lipo), or front motor (ie. saddlepacks) configuration. Currently, I am running SMC & gensacearespammers packs in mine, which I built with the front motor configuration (it's more balanced than the rear mirror config). I know others are using other brands. All you have to do is look at the measurements of the packs from different brands.

As for capacity, it depends on whether you'll be racing, or bashing, you're DSK. If bashing, go with the highest capacity that will fit (with the body on, obviously). If racing, you'll need to vary the capacity, as the A-mains are always longer than the prelims. You'll need to treat different capacities, to determine what works best.

Quickly returning to the 'balance', just in case anyone tries to say the rear motor config is "more balanced", it has already been proven (check the Rlaarlo group posts on FB) the front motor config is more balanced, not only front/rear, but also left/right, and cross-balance. And, as for the weight of the DSK (since one previous commenter claimed it to be "relatively heavy"), although it might be slightly heavier than some other 1/8 buggies, it is NOT excessively heavier (plus, there ARE 'lightened' option parts available, for making the DSK lighter). For those who have used it in races, it is doing pretty well. The more time you spend practicing with it, as well as dialing in the tuning, the better you will do. Although I am not aware of it having any 1st place finishes (yet), I am aware of it having finished 2nd in several club races.

got it, capacity for racing is very situational, need the finish the session with an 'empty' pack. I intend to bash (jump stairs landing on concrete, maybe build my own jump ramp) and speed bash (go as fast as possible and turn without having the car end up upside down).

That all depends on the battery used, I'm sure if you used 5200mAh single battery vs lets say 9000mAh single 6s there is no way it would be balanced.
My mates that I built, we went with saddle pack config because of the batteries at hand, 2s hardcase fit perfectly. For me, buggies are really only a 4s thing even if you're bashing, I can't stand heavy setups, don't get me wrong I'm not a weight weenie, but it's been proven many times that the heavier the car the more damage you will incur in a crash, also handling suffers from heavy rigs.

I would always just use lighter smaller mAh batteries and just use more of them if you want longer runtime, I used to be a full on 6s guy with everything, but recently I've converted more and more of my rigs to 4s and geared correctly..
