Must be something in the software.
It's not. It's the username's special character.

I'm willing to bet most everyone is using the ' character when the username is using ’

Yes, it's very subtle I know, but it's still a different character and thus the reason why when users use the @ to try to find him, he's not found or being mentioned - it's not a match.

My phone's Google keyboard only has one apostrophe option.

@J’sCrawler

Hey @WoodiE! That worked!

@Xraycer - on your google keyboard, click the second page of your special character screen and it's circled in this screenshot along with the button to swap screens.

Did a little research. Thats actually called a 'backtick' or 'grave accent' character. It's an oddity used in computer programming.

So @J’sCrawler - if you change your name to use the standard apostrophe, people will be able to tag you easier 😉

@Tunedfrog you're on the right track but not 100% correct either. Look at my post above, zoom in even, and you'll see there is a different in the two characters...

' vs ’

What you have suggested is also another character all together.

That said, the reason it's working now is that I've just installed an add-on that integrates better with our forum search functionality and provides a "fuzzy" username search. Meaning it does better trying to find similar users names than the default forum search. Heck as this point even typing @JsC.... will also make it a match.

The character that is actually in @J’sCrawler username is likely coming from an operating system, keyboard or manually typing the special character (like pressing ALT+0146).

Lol. Is there anything you can't make more cool? That's wicked. You don't even have to type the beginning of the name, or in any particular order. Just any letters or characters from the name works. That's crazy! 😅

Tried it with Doom's name, and typed it all out of order.
