I wish there were like 2 more ovals. This season would be nearly 50/50 but I can't imagine VRC will ever make another oval track. VRC is a worldly program and oval racing ain't wordly unfortunately.
 
It would be great if they had a few more ovals. Maybe something big like Talladega where you could just keep the throttle mashed, a short track like what they have now, and an intermediate length track. I noticed in the VRC clubs that at one point Fast Eddy had set up a RCNT oval club, I wish that was still racing.
 
I know how you feel Joe. This was the first test track this season and the first VRC track I ever tried to drive on. It sucked!
What I did was go into the setup,click the engine tab and switch to the low-power engine. It's LOW power and will allow you to drive around the track a bit more to get familiar with the turns. It wasn't long before I was ready for more power.

Until you can get around the track without looking drunk, you don't need to go fast.

I just canned the other club I started earlier this year, so I have the option of making a new club. Personally, I think racing at the same track week after week will get boring. Even if the grip level is switched up alot it's still the same layout with the same racing line. I've tried to find speed at RC Speedway by using a middle groove in 3 and 4 but I've had no luck. No matter what the setup is, the fastest way is at the bottom it seems.

I guess you guys are right, it would get boring running the same track every week, I just enjoy the oval so much more.

Not only do I look drunk, I look like Stevie Wonder on a 5th of scotch. :hehe:
 
You'll enjoy the road courses once you get more comfortable. However, it's still racing and there are bound to be tracks that you like and tracks you dont'. I hate Ft. Myers but I love Cincinnati.

Well doing this I was able to get laps in the mid 20s with my best a 22.5. Definitely better than I was doing with a more powerul engine. Guess I will practice with my rtr engine and see what happens.
 
That sounds pretty good Joe. I can't compare apples to apples because off-hand I'm not sure of the grip level difference but last year I averaged 20.272 at Kakegawa. Jeff averaged 20.929, Rob did 24.749 and Gabe did around 28.166 :) History is a beautiful thing.

On average over 4.5 seconds faster.
 
Nice. Think this week is going to be close. I was just tuning a bit and am hovering around 20 seconds. Just having trouble with my timing through the infield esses. Having the taller curbs takes a bit of getting used to. Can't really touch them much without a wreck. Still want to tweak a bit to be able to power through the sweepers better. But looks like I'm right on pace with the rest of you.
 
Off Topic...

OK, I'm going to ask you fellas since you guys probably have a more honest and relative opinion about this than most due to everybody's experience with RC Speedway. If you guys didn't already know, turns 1 and 2 at RC Speedway are 6* and 3 and 4 are 14*.

Concerning the oval I'm designing in AutoCAD.. I've decided on relatively flat and traditional banking in turns 3 and 4. It's only 5 degrees pivoting from the innermost edge of the racetrack. That is to say the entire width of the track rises to 5 degree. The other end I've planned much more complicated because I trying to engineer at least 2 different racing lines. I expect turns 3 and 4 to be a fight for the inside only. Anyways, in 1 and 2 I've always intended on designing progressive banking into it but I'm not really sure how much I want. Right now I'm thinking about a 6* difference from the inside to the outside in the realm of 11-17 degrees. Another factor is that I was thinking of pivoting the banking at the center of the track width instead of the inside edge. That means the innermost line would drop like 11" and the outermost lane would rise 11" with the center line making no elevation change as it turn from flat to 14* of banking.

Any opinions?

Sounds like a challenge that would make me like to only turn left.

Hard to say on the degrees though. I think this may be a situation where you are going to have to begin with what you think will work and then adjust it once it's built if necessary. PITA for sure, but you won't truly know how it's going to work until it's built.
 
Whew! My Tx batts finally died after an hour+ of running. I thought they were lower than that and wanted to have a fresh charge to race tomorrow night.

Josh your track sounds tricky to set up for to me, but then again what do I know :shrug:
 
Yeah, I think you're right Rob. I think I'm just gonna have to give it a shot in the dark and just go with a bunch of hypotheses. There are a lot of differences between what I'm designing from VRC's RC Speedway. Car weight, overall track size, track surface, tire material.. yadda, yadda. A lot of unknown I guess. The only given is that rc cars handle much much better than a 1:1 stock car due to their weight/traction properties so extremely deep banking isn't all that necessary. You figure at RC speedway we enter turn 3 all full tilt (probably like 50 mph or close to it) and its' only 14*. Now that's on simulated asphalt not ozite so I don't know if I'm going overboard or not in turn 1. I'm nearly complete with the simple cross members though.

Back on topic.. I haven't even touched VRC today. I guess it's all on Sunday for me this week. I could use a break from all these lines anyways :)
