Not sure on the v2 but on my v3 I believe it has jst connecters and can support 2 to 4s lipo. I would check out protek cause I know that they have receiver packs. I am still running AAs in mine which I only changed out once. For the connectors take out the 6 AA tray and see what connector is on the tray.
Or maybe look at rechargeable AAs? That's what I might do.

A turnigy nano-tech 950mah 3S fits into the compartment without rattling around and has a suitable connector, and runs it all day (6+ hours) on a charge. It's a drone battery, but it's what I had on hand. There's purpose-built transmitter batteries on AliExpress, I'm just using the Turnigy because it's what I had.

The compartment would fit a pack made up of 3x 18650's, but I haven't found any off the shelf with the right connector and a balance plug instead of a BMS. That would give it a ludicrously long battery life.
