I got 1 of these with my arrma fury.

The nimh batteries from way back never had a balance lead on them. Is there any harm in cutting off the current connector and swapping it to a deans plug not using the balance lead?

It looks like you gain features when using a Smart charger and you don't have to use a smart charger (like the LiPOs), but I think I'd prefer to solder up an adapter cable (EC-3 to Deans) in case I wanted to use the Smart features down the road?

I will probably just make an adapter. I think on the nimh battery the balance wire may just be a circuit that identifies it as a nimh battery for the smart charger. Everything is automatic.

I got one of them with a granite I got my daughter, I chopped it off and put xt 60 and just heat shrunk the wire end. Really have no intention of ever “upgrading” to smart system 😅

Whoops forgot the pic 🤣

Good stuff...I have a smart charger for reasons unrelated to this battery. And a use for this battery unrelated to smart tech.

I didn't know much about Smart batteries/chargers until I bought a pair of them as the first packs for my 1/8 EB, and discovered that I couldn't use the (non-SMART) charger I bought to charge them. Due to the IC-5s, I put EC-5s on the ESC and made an EC-5 to Bullets cable to use my other batteries.

I think the only purpose of that smart feature on an NiMH would be to set the optimal charging rate (and retain history), so if not important, certainly swap them out.

I have a good quality hitec charger I use for most stuff. Manually program settings for any battery with or without independent balance leads. Not a fan of the all in 1 integrated ic3/5 system
