pull start and eletro start

Well while I was looking for what kind of car I should get I talked to the owners one had a eletro start and other had pull the one with pull said eletro is good but it can put you out for a day if u have dead battries, the other guy with the eletro start said that pull starts will break sooner or later and it slows down the rpm because of the friction. The car I'm getting has a pull start and I have no problem, but what I want to know is if sooner or later will I have to get an eletro start or is it one of those upgrades that are optional.

um, first off, the guy with the electro start is wrong. the electro start will have the same amount of friction or added mass to the crank as the pullstart.

There are advantages and disadvanges to pullstart and electric. Pullstart you have to keep pulling at it. And you can get really tired from it after awhile if the engine isn't starting up right away. But it is a lighter unit.

Electric, it weighs a lot more. So if you're racing, it's just one more thing to slow you down. Also, you can't get a turn marshal to restart it since you need the little battery. Also, you do have a potential of blowing the one-way constantly. But the positive side is that it's easier to start an engine...way easier

Now, there is a third option. Don't get a pullstart or electric. Just have none. And use a starter box (assuming you don't have an MT). Starter boxes are easy to use, and don't require anything to be added to the car, so you have less weight. Also, you have less mass on the crank so it'll rev faster. Downside, is that it's expensive.

And to answer your question, no, electric start isn't a real biggy thing. Some owners who have cars that come with electric start, they remove it and put a pullstart on it.
