K say i got a 5 port and a 3 port engine which is better and why. Just trying to understand what condiotions you would want what engine.
 
This may be wrong, but from what I've seen more ports = more top end, less ports + more low end.
 
so if there is a range anywere from 3 - 8 you would want like a 5 are 6 to get the best of both worlds. This is another thing a track would dictate it seems. How nice it would be to go look at a track and say well i need this 300 dollar mill.
 
I beleive they do limit the ports for racing. I think you are limited to .21 3 port engines for buggies...MT racing is different cause I see guys running .28 engines in the unlimited class....and the number of ports isn't the factor it's the VOLUME of the intake vs. the exhaust port that make's the difference in the power band....and the timing of when each one is intaking or exhausting.......

If it's a short track, you may only need a $100 mill (OS RG) and driving skills. Seriously.

EDIT: The above artilcle is worth the read. To be hontest, I learned a few things about bore and stroke. I personally feel the breakin part of it is a little outdated though.
