with my bday coming up, I have around 200 pounds to spend, (don't know how many dollars this is)

The problem is this, here in the UK, for that money I could get a new traxxas nitro rustler/stampede, which i feel i would be quite happy with,

however for the same money, on ebay, you can get either a used t-maxx 3.3, or a revo 3.3, i would be extremely happy with these.

the thing is, can used trucks be trusted or is it always best to buy new?

I am quite new to the rc world, but would like a little advice,

thanks

IMO, yes they can. It all comes down to what's on it. You want something with probably lots of hop-ups, but not like a shelf queen. Some things to back off from is anything aluminum that shouldn't be (A-Arms, etc.). Another thing that I stay away from is anything Integy. I also recommend you get something that is or almost RTR. Make sure you get a full description on the engine too.

new is always nice because you know exactly whats going on- its new.

there is nothing wrong with going used just have to know what you are walking into. I've bought a couple cars off of ebay and for the most part ended up with a great deal, cars were in great shape, only problem i had was one the motor was on its way out.

i guess the biggest factor is how comfortable you are working on the truck and being okay with maybe having to throw a little time and money into it before you are running.

heres a thread from not that long ago about getting into a used rig some good pointers in here https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66349

thanks, thats good, so if i bought new which is best, for bashing, no local rtack near me so don't race,

and if i bought used what is best,

thanks

IMO, the best bashers for the price, new or used, is the Savage or the Aftershock. Savage is a great durable truck. I own one, and from numeral experiences I can say that it is the most durable truck I have ever had. The Aftershock is a great Losi truck for the price. I can't say anything about it though since I don't own one, but I know the Losi is great with RTR's. I know they give Spektrums for some of their RTR's.

Also: Another thing you can do is buy RC's with accessories and sell them off. This is great if something you buy has alu. A-Arms.

Personal Experience

I've had issue's buying used I guess it mainly depends on the previous owner. I bought a used mammoth that had more issues then buying new, so now I'm stuck with a mammoth i can't find parts for and a brand new T-maxx. I"ll probably buy new again atleast you know what you have done to it and what needs to be fixed not going into someone else's. Good luck if you decide to buy used though.

Buying used is ok, I've done it before. But, dont expect the engine to last long in it. I'm not saying that it wont, I'm just saying dont expect it to. Because you dont know how the person has looked after the Rig before you.
I've only ever bought an electric car used, so i didnt really need to worry about the motor or anything, it turned out just fine and it still runs now without even breaking a part or changing the motor.
I would say go for a used truck, you'll get more for your money. Just hold out until you find one that looks as though it is in good condition. And dont forget Ask lots of questions other than that, your good to go! :D

i'm still unsure, i don't want to get a used truck then be really disappointed when it ges here.

if I were to buy new, would the stampede or the rustler be better, or is there anything else on the market that is better? for around the same money,

thanks for all the help

I have never bought a new rig....well not yet I should say. I've had a bunch of used ones to date, and so far so good. Just remember that if you buy it from eBay you can't inspect it prior to the sale unless it's local. That's one of the big points really if you are going to buy used. Try and inspect it or ask as many questions as you can before you send money. I personally have had great luck going used. Others...not so much.

if you are new to nitro, don't buy used, buy 100% new and learn how to break in engine and tune it from basics and you will be much more happier after.
and also when it's new, everything is nice and shiny in perfect condition,in used you never know about bearings etc...
new is always better to start of with!

Yup, I agree with Bartek, buy new.If you would be extremely happy with the revo, why dont you save up for that or a T-maxx?

he won't,I was telling him to get Traxxas Revo which is great truck for every purpose.

would love revo, just a bit out of my price range, what is firestorm 10t a good st, i do have a buggy already but have only had it about 6 weeks, just want to expand and get something else.

is it a strong truck?

anymore suggestions, thanks for all the input

is as strong as Rustler but it's newer,it has newer engine and better layout.
it's very light which will let it have longer running times and it handles great on nearly every surface and it's not discounted like Rustler is!so that means that spare parts will be up for longer just like hop ups!
