I was a bike messenger in manhattan for years....let me tell ya during christmas time for customers that I went the extra mile for, if I didn't get a tip I'd stop going out of my way for them.....now when I say go out of my way I mean stuff like "can you get htis package there in 15 mins" when I knew I'd have to blow a few stops and circle back around....when I did things like that yes I expect a tip...but for everyday deliveries..I rarely got tips unless it was a private residence.....never expect but if it's there hell yeah I took em

Tip? Gimme a break

For a job that requires no formal education....the boys in brown do quite well for themselves.

Not doggin ya Diver....I'm just a little fed up with the freakin' tip thing.....everybody has their hand out....for what....doing their job??????

Mr T
I used to feel the same way till I worked for UPS. They do a lot and I tip all the people that deliver to us since we get a lot of deliveries, sometimes very heavy deliveries (50 lb buckets of sandblast media). Granted not everyone gets as many deliveries as we (merchants & business owners) do BUT the service is there and yes you pay for it to be delivered but as someone that has been on both sides of that particular fence ... it's not asking for a hand out. It's a sign of gratitude. You will get your package no matter what, in what timely fashion depends on how you treat your delivery person.

The boys do quite well but did a lot to get there. Last I counted, $14/hour was their wage but not everyone that is a Driver, got their route from just an application.

SO, if you think they're asking for a handout for "doing their job" no they don't ask. They keep notes. Very good ones too. The same way bartenders do as well (I did that for many years). Blue collared job. We're paid to cater to your needs but don't think we don't keep notes. You want good service ... play nicey nice.

I hear local UPS guys talkin like they make 20 / hr....I'd take that for doing a no brainer job....poop I might even be able to sleep at night....

Wages are probably higher than I remember. I wouldn't doubt $20/hr but every bit of that wage is really worked for. I remember the busy season (Thanksgiving to New Years). I averaged about 200 stops per day. In the regular season, 80-110 stops/day was the norm. We had to sprint to get the packages out during the regular season but when it got busy, that sprint turned into a 4 minute mile. Even worse with incliment weather here in NYC.

I never could figuire out why people use UPS, Fed-ex & DHL when our prices(USPS) are cheaper! Besides, it's your own country company.

It can be summed up in one word. Tracking. USPS tracking for Priority packages sucks. If they were to implement a system similar to UPS or FedEx I would use them all the time.

I have yet to have a problem with anyone. I use UPS most of the time because it is convenient. I have access to a UPS account and they make daily stops where I work.

i agree iv used both ups and usps and i just use usps now just cuz of cost but i never know where it is and all, not very good tracking, when i used ups i never had any problems with them i knew where my package was and all that good stuff, havnt had any problems with either but i dont use them every day like some of you guys

Zandor- If they just honk their truck , then you need to put in a complaint. They are supposed to go to your door. And if you do get a notice, you can sign the slip and leave it for the carrier to deliver the next day or call the office and tell them to deliver it again.

NCNitro- There is always a problem with every delivery company.

Msly- I agree with you. We are lacking on the technology, and they are working on a new system as we speak in California.

If anyone ever has a problem, complaint, Hold mail, Forward, or Pick-up at your business/Home you can do it all on www.usps.com

And if anyone still feels that they can get anywhere with their complaint, send me a PM and I'll call that Post Office's Postmaster.

damn do you get commision for every letter that someone sends on your recomendation....you have got to be the most loyal USPS employee I've ever heard of...most people get that job and just fiddlesticks off as long as they can until they get fired...you're out on the web pumping the advertising for them on your own time.......:D.....they all got issues noones perfect and I use the one most convenient at the time.......T17 I had to poke some fun at you...dunno why, I just felt the urge....please don't sabatoge my mail though

LOL.... Since I'm a supervisor, I would like to help the members out as much as I can. Plus I like to be a loyal employee.

Just watch out for the powered stuff! hehehe!

I need help. USPS sucks, I made a carrier pickup request for 30 boxes @ 30lbs total weight. The postman came and pick those up. Eventually I had 35 boxes at that time, so i firgured it won't hurt to for the 5 extra small boxes.

The next morning, I got a phone call, I think it is my local post office supervisor. She told me not to do that again next time. If I scheduled for 30 boxes then 30 boxes is what they are going to pick up. So I asked "does that means the you want me to make the postman to come back the next day for the other 5 boxes?" She say nothing and start bs with me.

So what am I doing now? I put 50 boxes all the time no matter how many I got. When the requested quantity it is less than the actual quantity, they won't complaint (or they don't give a f*ck)

Did I file complaint at USPS.com? Hell yes! 5 times so far. However, I am still using USPS (priority most of the time) because of the price and customers don't pay me enough to use DHL/UPS. I will use DHL or UPS whenever that is possible.

She does not have any common sense! How are u going to complain about five boxes! That's more money that is being made for USPS! She's an ASS!!

What you should do is schedule an appointment with the Postmaster & discuss it with him in his office. If he doesn't give you an appointment let me know & I'll set it up.

For the most part usps has been good to me too. The only complaint I have is fairly comical. After years of the mail carriers walking the block to deliver to the door, we had to put up boxes by the street. No problem. Then came the complaints from the 200 plus # mail lady. I can't block the street within 8' either side of my box or either neighbors box. I got a suv a work truck and a boat. I can squeeze em all in my driveway and street, but my neighbors across the street have like 10 cars and park on my side while I'm gone all day. There's at least one day a week I get a nasty note from her instead of my mail.

Funny thing is...she is good friends with my nextdoor neighbor and will park in the street for 20 minutes and get out and BS with her. Needless to say, she has always delivered her mail, even though our boxes are on the same post.

Friggin' woman in uniform...I can't wait until one becomes President.

Well I'll jump in now, UPS sucks (sorry Dale). The buggy I bought from Fast Eddy was supposed to come today but they are saying it was delayed cause of a late train. Bah, BS I say. I was hoping to play with it tomorrow at the track.

I lucked out...everybody in town got a letter saying that the mailbox had to be near the street. Being a new home owner in the neighborhood I figured that I would get the letter as well, but I guess I was grandfathered or something because they keep comming right to the house.

I have no problems with USPS except for the hiring process. Team can you help me with that? My bro in law has been waiting for a while, he passed the test and hasn't heard anything. Typical govt I guess. I should know that.

Depends on his score. 90 & above usually gives u an interview within 2 weeks. Under 90 they put u on a waiting list. Let me know what he recieved.

If this is your reason for using UPS, you better look at this page a little closer. Their "tracking" has very little to do with reality.

I found out the hard way - the package was destroyed in Colorado en route from Texas, yet is shows as "scanned" in both Salt Lake City and Portland Oregon. When we hear "Scanned" we're thinking someone is passing a bar code scanner over our package and verifies that it not only exists but that it's at that location. Well, at least for the points between, that is total bullshit. Apparently no real "scanning" goes on except when it passes over the counter and arrives at the door.

Edit: LOL this brings back memories, note the "arrival scan" and "unload scan." I keep visualizing UPS mimes standing by an empty UPS truck miming the unload of a shitload of non-existent packages. hahaha . . ..

DOWN WITH BROWN!
DOWN WITH BROWN!
DOWN WITH BROWN!
DOWN WITH BROWN!

UPS's tracking sucks anyway. I've had them not update tracking on my packages, until the damn thing was delivered. FedEx still has the best racking.
