Looks like I'm going racing again!

Next parking lot race is June 7th!! Same location.

We decided we're going to stick to the Richmond parking lot races, once a month. Driving 2 hours each way to the other location is just not favorable or fun for anybody.

My daughter will be running her Slash again in the SCT class. My son wants to join her so I'm tracking him down a Slash or something similar that he can run.

Unfortunately, for me, the Losi Nascar class is an "exhibition" class which they only run sometimes. But that's okay! I have a new to me HPI RS4 Sport to run in the 21.5 Spec class (plastic tub chassis touring cars). I bought it from a good friend of mine, fully kitted for the class rules and ready to rip. I'll be out there doing it for Dale! ...can't get away from Nascars it seems lol.

I said there would be vids from our first race day.... took me long enough:

Clipped some of my daughter's best runs together:

The best video of the day was from my daughter recording my B-Main Losi Nascar run. I just uploaded it raw because I liked it so much. Unfortunately, it was my worst run of the day lol. This is the race my battery decided to hang its balance port out of the chassis and it kept sucking up into the tire. I was fighting the car the entire time. I think I had 3 smooth laps where it wasn't causing the car to constantly drift. Sucked so bad because my 2nd qualifier was so good and I thought I had the B-Main in the bag -_-

Your daughter did great!
Looks like a lot of fun. Great job Dad!!! 😎 👍

I raced the Nascar once, don't even know when I might be able to race it again since it's a special "sometimes" class but I just couldn't leave it alone. Had to make it better. Why are we like this!?

What I wanted to change: Out of the box, the car is twitchy, unpredictable, and has a hard time going in a straight line.

My thoughts: Some thicker shock oil should do the trick.

My actions:
  1. Order some 55wt oil
  2. "Oh look a spring kit"
  3. Add spring kit to cart.
  4. "Swapping out the radio for my DX5C would probably help some and it would definitely give me more tunability that the car needs" "Oh. I have to replace the combo ESC/RX to use my transmitter"
  5. Add HobbyWing 1060 ESC to cart
  6. Install all the things.
  7. Weight-tune the chassis with some lead and test all the spring ratings until I found the winning combo.
  8. She's a ripper!!! Drives like a 1:10 car on rails now!
  9. Found that it still has a little physical slop in the steering rack.
  10. Add aluminum steering rack to cart. (still waiting for this to arrive)
I'm having a LOT of fun with this thing. Brings me right back to my parking lot racing days 20 years ago.

yeah been trying to convince him to get his son an RC and away from minecraft.

A bit far for me though or Id be there all the time. I did talk to the guys in the shop last time I was up that way but it was just after Christmas and could tell they needed a few days off.
There loaner / rentals were all trashed

That's typically the case for any rental RC.

They are all good people there. My local HobbyTown is the Fredericksburg location, but they haven't brought the racing program to our spot yet. Hopefully one day.

My 21.5 spec car is arriving tomorrow.

The HobbyTown folks are standing up the track this Sunday for a practice day. They're also going to be hosting an ad-hoc Losi Nascar race amidst the practice heats. My daughter and I are going to head down there and do some test n tune and some Nascar racing action!

In other news, I've talked myself into buying a Tamiya TT-02 kit to run in the exhibition class on June 7 "Box Stock TT-02". I'm picking it up from HT on Sunday along with a bearing kit, oil-filled dampers, and a spring kit because not only are those things allowed per the rules, but they are very necessary to make a TT-02 go in a straight line. For the kit, I went with the Mustang GT4 because it was the cheapest TT-02 in the shop lol. The plan is to build it, paint the body, and break in the tires in the 6 days leading up to next Sunday's race.

Recap of yesterday's practice day:

SCT
: My daughter kept her Slash in one piece all day and is getting significantly faster!

Nascar: The ad-hoc race ended up being the highlight of the day. I qualified third in my heat and 4th overall out of 16 cars and took 2nd place in the main. We ran a single qualifier round broken out into 2 heats of 8 cars each and then we ran a single main with everybody together...that was a blast. My videographer captured an awesome video of the qualifier but nothing for the main where I was really killing it.

I wasn’t ready for the photo apparently….

21.5 Spec: I did not get to run my spec car because it was delayed in shipping and is now expected to arrive today  Hopefully it doesn't need much to be fast out of the box because I'm not going to have much time this week to dial it in.

TT-02: When all of the TT-02s were in front of me at the shop, I had to choose the Motul Z over the Mustang GT4. I picked up the car kit, bearings, and the Tamiya oil filled shock kit but the spring pack was out of stock. Now I have 6 days to build this thing, break in the tires, and get familiar with it before race day. My son is obsessed with this car so I am probably going to let him run it in the Novice class on Sunday. He requests it be blue and black instead of red and black...we'll see what we can do about that lol.

Yes, I agree. The Motul Autech Z (and GT-R) choices are super sexy. I can't wait to hear your reports on the TT-02 chassis. :thumbs-up:

I got the same tt02 ,did not stay box art with the paint. Through a bunch of mods at it. Doesn't qualify for local races anymore, but it's a great blacktop basher. Never got my kids into rc successfully. There may still be time...

There's always time! Sometimes it takes finding the right vehicle to get them interested. My son could care less about RC even though he has more race trophies and medals to show you than I do lol. My daughter loves RC just as much as I do.

My boy has some challenges that will make it a difficult hobby for him, the girl is and always has been video game focused. I can get her to try things...much like their mom though, once is enough to be able to say I have done that, and move on.

Vid of my NASCAR qualifier! Ended up finishing third in this one even after spending a solid 8 seconds on my roof!

I was “Jason D” for the day, even though my last initial is O lol.
