Well as some one you may know, I hit a large rock the size of a small boulder back in October. I took my car to the shop November 10th to start the process of getting repairs done. At that time my estimate for repairs was about $9,500. After a month and a half of waiting. I was thinking it would be done soon, I called the dealership and they just keep finding more items that need to be replaced and also told me they were waiting for my insurance adjuster to approve it.

They just released a new updated estimate and it has gone up from $9500 to $15,866. I think it’s safe to say they will be totaling my car. Just wish it didn’t take them so long to come to this conclusion.

In the end, it’s a blessing in disguise if they decide to total it. I still owed a significant amount on it as well as I was just sick of the payments.

Will find out today if it is totaled or if they wanna keep fixing it. The car is only valued at $12,000.

Sorry to hear about the vehicle woes.

Cars and trucks now are so expensive, the replacement parts and shop expenses have also risen through the roof in recent years.

I am currently dealing with a claim on my Ridgeline. A semi driving down the road without a latched gate pulled out in front of my and showered my new truck in rocks.

Insurance estimate showed $3500 +/-
The body shops estimate is $16,000 +

None of that is a surprise. Once the body shop (or dealership body department) digs into it they always find more.

Hoping for you that you end up with the conclusion you desire.

Well, it’s gone. It was an amazing car and I truly am grateful I was able to drive and own it for the 3.5 years that I've had it.

That’s wild it took so long. I don’t think I’ve ever waited longer than a week to get that news….not that I’ve totaled several cars or anything…errr uhhh…

So what’s next??

Wow. Sorry to hear they totaled it, but seems it doesn't take much these days to reach the "total loss" threshold on a car.
It's not these days, been that way for decades. More vehicles get totaled from cosmetic damage than any mechanical damage.
20 years ago my Alero got side swiped and they totaled it.

So

So uh, how’d ya hit this large rock? Were you day dreaming of bashing your rcs and tried to do it in your car? 🤔🙃

I plan on making my next vehicle a simple purchase. The way I see it, is that I just got out of 18K debt and don’t have to make $508 a month payments. So I’m going to be looking for something much cheaper payment wise and just cheaper all around.

I have a couple saved that I plan on looking at tomorrow or Saturday but I’m pretty hooked on this Honda Accord I have found. Still rocking the same 3.5L V6 engine, hopefully I can make it mine🤞
