So I'm looking into getting my first electric and first onroad car. I was looking at the HPI sprint 2 flux, it looks good to me but I dont know much about them. Anyone have one of these and if so can you can tell me how it is. Also any other suggestions would be greatly appreicted. I also like the Traxxas mustang boss 302, but I kind of want it to be something bigger then 1/16 scale.

Guess no one here has one or maybe they just didn't see the thread. I prefer dirt vehicles as they are far more flexable, and let's face it, playing in the dirt and mud is fun. I do have a drifter of some sort on the way, buddy of mine is giving it to me and I think the strictly street stuff will be fun, but don't see me using it as much as the scb or savage.

I'll comment since I own both...

The Boss 302 is a fun car (have the VXL brushless model) and it was my first 1/16 scale car. It's a handful with the slick tires on it, but other than shock oil, springs, and a few small things, not much you can do to it.

I have the first gen Sprint 2 Flux w/ AM radio and non-waterpoof electrics and this was my first belt drive car. I've always had shaft drive stuff (RS4, Savage, etc.) so belt drive was new to me. You have to be careful on the surface you run, but I've not had any issues running on the street (yet). I know some people clearance the rear diff carrier to ensure no rocks get stuck in there. I am running it with a 5K Nimh pack and it's a lot of fun too.

I guess if I was looking to buy and those were my two options I'd go for the Sprint 2 Flux. The new one is 2.4 Ghz, waterproof, and even comes with batteries to get you going. The 1/10 scale means you can easily find your favorite body for it, and there's a lot of upgrades for it too (carbon deck, towers, shocks, etc.). Regular 26mm wheels work on it too.

HTH...

Thanks alot guys. I'm also now looking at the traxxas rustler and losi speed-t. I heard about the rocks breaking the belts, thats what I'm worried about.

IMO if you are running a touring car in a parking lot it doesn't much matter if it's belted or shaft driven. If you want to enjoy yourself you're gonna want to blow the area clean anyways. Not only can pebbles get caught in the belts, but you'll always run them over with the chassis which is just as much a PITA unless you raise the ride height WAAAY up.

or there is always off-road vehicles.

Rusty is a great stadium truck! My buddy has the nitro rustler and his father in law has the erustler vxl. Both have tons of power to spare. I'm a big losi fan. Xxx-NT and xxx-scb

I'm a big losing fan

So that's why you took up racing R/C cars? LOL

j/k

I've never broken out the leaf blower to clean my street or a parking lot to run my cars. Frankly, I've never had a problem with my RS4 or the Traxxas 1/16 car as far as debris/pebbles. I get more crap in my Savage running through the front yard!

I only mentioned the belt as it is exposed on the Sprint 2 Flux (some cars have a cover on the belts), as it is more a indoor/carpet racer but can be used on an "ungroomed" surface, just be aware of the belt's condition and carry spares...

on road's are alot of fun but I dont know if it would be the best first and only one to have at a time.. the rusty, jato, nitro sport, hpi mt2 all pretty good on and off road with right tires.. I have a hpi rs4 and a jato and a rusty and i love my rs4 dont get me wrong but i only use that once in a while because as was stated earlier running in dirt and stuff is alittle more fun and you dont have to worry about getting ran over as much either. l.o.l. the traxxas slash with either the vxl setup or a castle creations setup on it are pretty damn fun!!!! on and off road and it is electric and you can get either 4wd or 2wd...

It's just my first electric, I already have a losi aftershock le. Also I like the losi speed t because it's 4 wheel drive the rustler isn't. I haven't completely made up my mind yet I just really like how the sprint looks and I want some speed. The aftershock is fast but not fast enough, also I ant to get involved in some racing as well. So as of right now I'm thinking the speed t 4x4 slash to play around with in the fall and occasionally in the winter then spring for the onroad next spring. Anyone seen the new Kawasaki slash it's by far the nicest looking one to me I hope it comes to Canada before I decide what to get. Thanks for the advice I greatly appreciate it and please keep it coming.

If you want to get involved in racing on-road I suggest the Associated TC4. It comes with a 17T motor so you're somewhat good to go for "stock" touring car class.

However, if you want to have a bit more fun racing you might want to look into racing VTA class. You can't get a RTR car that's outfitted properly right out of the box but the Sprint 2 Sport can come with the proper wheels/tires and a old Camaro body. You would need to upgrade your motor and ESC but that's hands down the most fun at the track for a new guy.

I would reccomend shaft driven 4wd cars, with a belt drive that low to the ground you are going to catch small rocks in ur drive and fk your gears up, My 3.3 nitro 4tec was belt driven and had that problem time and time again...

yeah there is alot more electric racing now adays now that electric are so much faster than they used to be and alot of places up here either have off road tracks or indoor carpet.. I know one paved place but it is just an oval.. I know I shouldnt knock it till I try it but I would love to find a paved track outdoors that has a few more turns.... but up here in maine not alot of people do anything for more than themselvs to enjoy... maybe in a couple years when I can afford to buy a house and property I will be the first to make a complicated track for onroad... I love the hpi rs4 3evo nitro although I want a bigger engine for it but I will need to upgrade a few parts on the chassis first..
