Next 1/18 rig

I think we all know how much of a pain it is to deal with the trx4m torque twist. While I’m not an expert at all, I’ve messed with my share of trx4m stuff. Every single one of the ones I own has torque twist at some level, even after upgrading to ball bearings, adding thicker oil to the shocks, not over tightening the wheel nuts, etc. I’ve been considering getting a different 1/18 brand. I know, there are a bunch out there but I was looking at a cr18p t hunter. Counter rotating rear driveshaft sounded pretty interesting.
I’d like to hear your recommendations and opinions on that rig.

Redcat ascent is a pretty good truck and becoming pretty popular.

Yes, crawler. That is a neat little rig. Does it have as much torque twist as the trx4m?
Oh boy, I’m looking at them.
Still, the cr18p comes with a brushless motor.

So does the TRX4M driveshafts, front and rear turn towards the same side of the truck? If so, that would be why. It's not a problem if the driveshafts turn in opposite directions.

Well, not 100% sure about that but I do know all of my rigs have torque twist no matter how much upgrades I throw at them. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong and I haven’t figured that out.
I can tell you it annoys the heck out of me. Plus other stuff traxxas does that bugs me too so that’s why I’m looking for a different brand of 1/18 which is my favorite scale.

I have the V1 T-Hunter. Right now, I think something is binding in the drivetrain and I can't find it. It torque twists like a mofo. The new V3 with counter rotating driveshafts should eliminate that. It's an awesome little truck and mauls over just about everything. Mine is just an 050 brushless motor, the new brushless V3's should be good as gold. Do it, lady.

I am seriously thinking about selling them and going with something else. My scx24 performs way better than my trx4m.

I am really trying to not buy another FMS 1/18. I already have their brushed version. I love it. All I have done is put Injora wheels/tires for lower cog and it works great. Plus 2 speed!

If your looking for performance Hobby Plus CRI8P juice up edition is the best performer straight out of the box.

T-Hunter V3 is pretty good with the new brushless set up you can see mine here.

I love my Redcat Ascent18's They perform well out of the box, and even better with a little added weight. They also have some new brushless models.



All of the above perform better with aluminum wheels and new tires, I prefer Injora.

Same with @Doom! On the Redcat. Just some weighted wheels and pretty darn good. I can say the Redcat is quite durable. I got one for our kiddo, she's 3.5yrs. She's driven off furniture into walls, etc with no breakage. It's currently been running on a homemade toothpick axle pinion mod. As I lost the pinion changing wheels .

Those tend to vanish into thin air(I lost one just yesterday. I keep spares of those around, just make sure to label them, sometimes they are different between brands!
It's hard to beat redcat, hobbyplus, and FMS for the price.

I have a little of everything when it comes to mini crawlers. But this last year or two, the competition has really heated up. Axial has a lot of top notch competitors to deal with. I'm loving the variety available now.

I’ve been watching reviews all afternoon, while the fms has a two speed transmission I like the cr18 a bit more. I might end up getting that one and the redcat ascent18. I already have an ascent fusion which is an amazing performer right out of the box.
I am keeping my ripper built, just because I spent an insane about of time working on it and my high trail k10. I’m trying to downsize. The tarantula and the defender I might sell.
After dealing with upgrades after upgrades to make my rigs “perform better” I get to the conclusion that I want something that will not break the bank as much.

Just a heads up, the Ascent 18 pickup crawls better than the Scout due to the exra body weight being above the CG on the scout. But the scout looks great scale wise. Kind of depends what your after.

Performance wise if I could only choose one it would be the Hobby Plus Juice up.

If you have a healthy budget, then your looking at Furitek.

I've been trying real hard to resist purchasing one of these HPI Venture 18's for that exact reason..I'm always happy when finishing up a trx4m based builds but then I have to set aside 2-3 days dedicated to eliminating the torque twist to a minimum...This thing checks alot of boxes and they now have brushed & brushless version for a non budget busting price point. So many other manufacturers finally stepping up to the plate with much better offerings lately that Traxxas can't sue them all into oblivion. Anyhow, this Venture 18 may be worth a peek..
