I just picked up these two trucks for next to nothing, they look like they are almost ready to go. My question is what i need to do to get them fired up? I know the obvious gas, charge batteries, ect.. But what do i need to go out and buy to complete the trucks? What should i replace?

What is the process i should go through? Empty gas tank (might be old gas)?

I picked this box up for 20 bucks! I'm brand new into this so you could call me a newbie.. So try to dumb it down for me. Here are the picks.

You'll want to have couple glow plugs on hand. It helps when trouble shooting as well as having back ups. I use byrons gen 20% nitro. Mainly because that's all my LHS sells. If your air filters aren't in bad shape you'll be ok. I just use a little dish soap and warm water to clean filter and the assembly after every run. Dry with air, reoil and good to go. You tube helped me out alot getting started. Plenty of instructional videos for starting, mainting, and of course bashing! And any question can be answered here! Good luck

After cleaning your filters, use some air filter oil on the inner filter element before you run it. You will also want to pick up some After Run Oil (ARO). This is used after you're through running for the day. It keeps the engine from rusting. You put a few drops in the carb and a few drops in the glow plug hole and then turn the engine over a few times.

You will also want to buy a squeeze bottle for the fuel at the hobby shop. You use it to fuel the trucks as well as removing the fuel when you're thorough running for the day.

Wow!!All of that for $20 is a sweet deal. Looks like you might have a FOC (Forward Only Conversion) in one of the trans, probably the maxx, in my opinion, FOC is great. I would start by cleaning the carb with WD40 or after run oil, just spray some down into the carb and down the hole where the glow plug is located...as stated above. Change out all of the fuel tubing.

Have FUN!!!!!

if they didn't come with the manuals go to traxxas.com and look up your rig and you can print out the manuals exploided view and the parts list for your rigs.. that will help you to figure out what some of the extra parts are!!! But hellofa deall!!!!! def. 2 good trucks for a great deal with only having that amount tide up you will have alot more tide up when you get into upgrading stuff as you get used to a driving style!!!!! good luck and as stated below you can get all your answers here we have some really smart people here!!!!

Spur gears (theyre cheap, so get like one or two per truck), brake discs, batteries for the rx and transmitter (unless they have hump packs), and yeah fuel tubing (I usually keep 3-4 feet handy at all times). Other than that, just check over both rigs to see if there are any broken plastic parts before you go to your lhs, if you do find any broken plastic....go with RPM replacements if possible. Also, go over the trucks with your hex drivers and screw drivers and check to make sure that everything is tightened down nicely (not too tight though, you can easily strip the plastic if your not careful) and to check for any stripped out heads on any screws, this would be agood time to replace anything like that.

Yeah, as far as tools go, its a good idea to have a 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0mm hex drivers set in your tool box. I have the golden Horizon set of the 4 above, and they are awesome, but I have heard that Hudy is a great brand of tools to have as well.

Good luck! Hope everything works out for ya...let us know how you make out.

I still can't believe that you picked that up for $20!!!! You also have a New Era roll bar on the maxx, I notice.

If you don't have the manuals I would order them. This way you have part numbers and diagrams.

You could order them, or you could save yourself the $$ and just download the pdf files form the Traxxas website. I have the old version Tmaxx (4910) and they have still got the diagrams and part number list on there.

Just my :2cents:

Yup i have the manual for the Revo but not the other. What exactly is the other truck? Traxxas what? Here is the new shopping list:

Gas (recommendations?)
Glow plugs
fuel bottle
After Run Oil
air filter oil
Fuel Tubing 3-4 ft
Air filters
Spur Gears
Hex set

Anything else?? What are hump packs? Do i need to buy some specific batteries?

hump packs are battery packs that are in hump shape. They are rechargable and are generally better than using regular AA batteries. Just ask you hobby shop for battery packs for the cars and they will show you what you need.

The other truck is a Traxxas Tmaxx ( older version it loooks like to me). The hump packs are rechargable packs that go in the battery box in place of the AA batteries that would be used stock, hump packs are not necessary, but in the long run are cheaper and provide more power to run the servos. So, check the battery boxes on both, if they have AA batteries powering the Rx and servos, then pick up a pile of good quality AA batteries......or for probably the same $ you could just get yourself a couple of hump packs.

I also noticed that you dont have the ez starter wand, well I only see half of it in your pics, so you will need to get a new wand for the Tmaxx, and possibly a new battery for it.

Great thanks guys! very helpful. Ill see if i can return the favor with some good pics/video when its all said and done. Feel free to send more advice/recommendations!

Sounds good, have fun, and remember.....when you get frusturated(and you will), walk away for awhile, check this forum for info and the Traxxas site, and stay cool. When I first started with this, trying to work on my Tmaxx, sometimes I wanted to leave it in the middle of the highway and watch it get run over!!

Look forward to seeing some pics and vids.

haha good advice!

yeah I think that the one with the blue roll bar is a classic tmaxx if you were to get a 3.3 for that tmaxx you would have a screamer on your hands!!!! but one question the one with the blue roll bar is that 2wd???? i was tying to see if I saw shafts in the front but I couldnt tell..... 20 bucks unbelievable...... wheres my deal like that?????

Looks like you got just about all of it coverd you might want some spray grease or lithium grease for bearings and when you have to open up the tranny it is good to have around I ran out but normally keap some handy to keap the bearings lubed up after I wash my rigs down I use it to keap anything fom rusting and binding up............

You will definetly have a lot of fun!!!!! oh yeah the starter wand I dont know who else said something about one of them... it migh be a good idea to get a new one even if it came with one you never know what it was dropped in or on so just a helpful hint.. and always have an extra battery for your wands too...
