Hello all,
I've got a new traxxas xrt that I am modifying. I bought the hobbywing 70125 motor with the max 5 esc..
Am wondering what pinion and gears I should use?

So is your stock gearing a 20t pinion with a 50t spur? And it should be mod 1.0 gearing. Are you going with a bigger pitch, like mod 1.5?

Stock gearing should be Mod 1.0, and should be 20t pinion and 50t spur.

If going to Mod 1.5 the equivalent would be 14t pinion and 35t spur.

I don't have an XRT. Just going off gear calculations. Verify they will fit and you have proper adjustability on your motor mount.

Hey, thank you.
Yes stock is 20t pinion and 50t spur.. I do have the optional gearing on though wich is 23t pinion and 46t spur.. what would be the equivalent to that??
Is there a way to get faster?
Thank you for your help!

Oh and yes, am changing to mod 1.5 gears..

15t pinion and a 35t spur would be a little faster. I would just get a few pinions and try to see where you like it. Just make sure to monitor your temps.

I've come across a lot of 20t+ gears with a 35t spur online would a 20t or higher pinion be overkill?

Thank you for your help.. I honestly had no idea what gears to go with and was going to shoot from the hip and pray for the best..

I was just suggesting similar ratios to stock, which stock is 2.5:1. The 15t/35t 1.5 Mod gearing would give you 2.33:1, and be a bit faster. That HW motor should be able to handle more, so you may be able to get away with a 20t pinion.

There are a lot of things that come into play. The weight of the vehicle, the terrain you're driving it on (tall grass, dirt, concrete, etc), the ambient temperature, your driving style, etc will all affect the motor and ESC temps. Nobody can tell you the exact gear that you can use. Your best bet is to buy a few and see what you get. Maybe buy a 14t, an 18t, and a 20t pinion with the 35t spur and see what does what.

To calculate your ratio - stock pinion is 20t. Stock spur is 50t. Divide 50 x 20 and you get 2.5. So your pinion turns 2.5 revolutions to one revolution of the spur.

The smaller that number, the faster your RC will go, until it reaches the point the motor is struggling and overheating.

Another thing to consider is the gear diameters. Different mods will be different. You need to keep in mind your motor can only move so far. Get the wrong gearing, and you won't be able to use them. Since a 35t spur seems to be the standard in 1.5 Mod gearing for that kit, I'd start there.

To check the diameters of your gears, you can use this.

Pay attention to the OD reference dimension.

RC gears typically use a 20° pressure angle, so always use that.

Understood... thank you!

What steering servo upgrade do you recommend? Stock servo sucks
Stock servo does suck. Before you even upgrade the servo I’d highly recommend upgrading the servo saver/bellcrank. I run TRAXXAS aluminum bellcrank in my Xmaxx and XRT. I also run the traxxas 2085R servo in both rigs, it also comes with a stiffer spring you can install to the servo saver. People will say don’t buy traxxas and that it’s overpriced but I have had zero fitment issues, I did have a faulty servo but traxxas warrantied that with no problems. I also broke the plastic tab mounts off the 2085R servo from a massive chassis slap, but GPM has an aluminum case for it that I have since upgraded to. M2C also made a support to prevent breaking the tabs off. If you want a drop in that’s better than the 2085R I’d highly recommend the perfect pass monster T servo.

What is everyone's opinion on the perfect pass monster xl 110kg 1/5 servo on the xrt? Does it fit? Does it work well?
