new 18 tz and new guy problems

hello all!!
I am sorta new to the hobby .. i have a question on my truck
i have a hpi rs4 mt with a new os 18 tz motor in it!
when it hooks it accelerates like a bat out of hell until the higher rpm just kinda falls flat ??
i have the carb set on the high speed 1- 3/4 turns out just like is specd in the manual...
i also have changed from the slipper clutch back to the factory spur gear with no slipper ...
i sheared 2 gears with the slipper and it was overheating the spur gear with it ...
I think this motor and the 15 tooth clutchbell and a 52 tooth spur should net me more than 40 mph right?? that is about it ... sounds like it is ready for lift off!!
now i have the racing clutch shoes in it and they are set on the 3rd hole for more top end .. could they be slipping up high in the rpm range with the sick torque the motor provides??
should i invest in a better clutch shoe setup ... what is there as a option ..? i love how the ones i have are just about unmeltable just maybe not enough of a footprint on the bell to stay hooked without slipping i dont know
i will try to put the stockers back on and see if they work up high or maybe not ...
i just feel the motor and gear combo i have should go at least 50 right ??

Do you have a good smoke trail at high rpm's?
If yes, you can turn the high speed needle in at 1/8 turn at a time.
If not, turn it out 1/8 turn at a time.

yes i have it running strong just seems like it revs up but stops accelerating at about 40 mph ... almost like it is slipping on the shoes at high rpms
