I have a couple rigs that just do not seem to have the performance the other similar rig have. It’s frustrating because the poor performance rig has many of the same parts as the rig that just kills it. So I decided to just start over.

So I stripped both the non performers down and ordered a couple parts and now I’m going to see if I can make my best rig a second best.

Starting with a GSpeed carbon V3 frame. I’m going Servo on axle and a four link. This is not a comp truck it’s a run what you brung comp truck.

The silver axles are nice because they don’t show scratches and touch up with a Sharpie. But I painted the brass silver and it does not look like anything special. Like a cheater cheater.

I'm also going for punch. A lot of the climbs at my local crawl spot are little hops and leaps to grab ledges. I plan to keep it light and low and put a Holmes Hobbies 2200kv revolver on 4S. So it can jump and has wheel speed.
Just a couple shot to show the body. First phot is full compression. And the second it just with the Jack stands removed.
Metal rod ends and titanium links.
Going with 90mm shocks.

After this is done I’ll use the rest to build a scale trail rig.

I'm playing around with some mounting locations. This puts everything up front.

I am going to try putting the battery in the nose. The constant challenge of weight distribution is the choice. Further forward or lower down. You can’t have both with the battery and ESC placement.
So I need to secure and protect the battery. Holmes hobbies 2200kv revolver with a 4S pack 120c 1500 ma battery can get loose and slam into rocks hard.
I fabricated these frame sides. They are meant to keep the battery from moving side to side. Three cheep Velcro straps will hold it. The frame sides extend forward to protect the carbon frame.
Keep In mind there are no shocks on here yet, so this is beyond the bottom of the suspension travel. The tires can’t touch them.

Looks nice, I hope the Holmes Hobby Micro esc gets back in stock. It’s tiny, makes the revolvers silent, and 4s compatible.

Got this to a roller.
I’m using Hot Racing 90mm shocks with adjustable bladder. And I’m using .85mm axial springs front and .95mm rear. 50wt shock oil in the rear shocks and 30 wt in the front. Tires are dual stage foam with Hyrax predators.

Now I wait for the long rear drive shaft and trans to arrive next week.

Still waiting on parts but I got a chance to check the alignment today.
318mm wheel base and it all seems to be straight.
I run a little toe in like you would a 1.1, but I’m thinking toe out would give me a little more steering angle.

I put it on the corner weight scale. 2500 grams is the target weight once the trans and long drive shaft and body go on it will be close.

But at least it has a ton of forward weight bias and side to side balance is spot on. I am going to hang a very heavy metal driveshaft to the rear and I expect the forward bias to be at 60/40.

I checked the ground clearance with the long wheelbase. Seems ok so I can maybe drop it down a touch.

The mechanic stuff, I'm gonna have to get more comfortable with, before I can go mixing and matching anything, that might have a chance of running, but I can decorate them. 🤣

The shocks arrived from Dlux. These are really great shocks. They use standard Traxxas seals. So parts are easy if anything leaks.

You buy them according to the rig weight and shock length. These are 90mm.

I’m running them with a bladder not emulsion.
50w with medium springs in the rear to keep things firm in a climb. Front is soft springs and 30 w oil.

Just letting the air bubbles float out and that’s it.

So far everything fits. But the battery is latterly wrapped in the front body. There are a couple layers of Velcro around it. But I’m concerned about damage to the battery. And this is a three cell battery. If the 4s pack is much larger than the 3 s pack I might have to change body. And or build a bumper

looks good though :)
Thanks. This build feels really good. Everything just seems to be fitting together like I want it to.

It’s different enough from the others that I’m worried it will be a flop. But confident it will beat my best rig.

Hopefully this weekend I can run it on 3s and see.
Watch for the results in my dark horse farm thread. I’m planning a shoot out.

The Team Garage Hack 2.low transmission arrived today.
30% overdrive to the front axle and super low and light.
Plus a carbon winch mount. I need to buy a winch but don’t really use them at the place I craw. For now I will ust make space for it for now.

Now I just need an extended length driveshaft and I can run it.
