While I'm waiting for parts for my ratty ax10 i figured i could start on the next one

I've been collecting parts for a couple months now with the goal of building a brand new ax10 from scratch, heres what i got so far!

I havent sourced any electronics yet, and I'm shy driveshafts and possibly a few links for the chassis plates, but this is good enough to start

Everything here is new in package with the exception of the gearbox, but i have a nip case for it, nip motor plate, new spur gear and a fresh set of bearings.

You may have also spied the used shocks, i have most nip parts to have those be brand new as well

The body wasn't in the packaging, but its brand new never mounted, sourced that in japan!

Pink dot rovers for this fella. 2x 3.5mm vent holes per tire

All mounted up on the new axial 8 holes, a handsome looking combo. Mounted them in the "A" direction

Getting the brand new axle set built, this was fun

Because this was a really old nip ax10 axle set it came with aluminum lockers and the grub screw style pinion. Even though used parts, i swapped those out for HD steel locker and the newer scx10 part# pinion shaft

New axial CVD's. I've heard these are weak af, but this truck will mostly be a display piece.. mostly 🤣

All assembled

Gotta admit i thought i got the bearing in here crooked, then remembered oh right, vanquish 8 degree inclined kingpins LOL

1000007835.webp

Assembled and lookin fine

1000007836.webp

wasn't in the build plan, but a guy might have to inboard those links 🤔 😂

Time to build up the rear axle

These old NIP ax10 axle sets i believe were for the OG scorpion kit, so they both came with steering components only ~ snagged some vanquish lockouts to match the front and a new set of rear axles

Also going to use the used steel HD locker and scx10 style pinion

I got busy and forgot to take progress pictures 🤣

But it got a generous amount of grease and all new bearings

I bought a used lot of 10.1 parts recently, found this used TCS crawler servo plate to use as a 4 link mount. Gave it a sanding with 60, 180, 220 and 600, looks decent.

Here it is after 180 grit, again, didnt take pictures of all the stages LOL. Ill try to be better

Mounted up to the axle, and installed some grub screws to keep debris put of the axles

Opened up the RC Syndicate chassis plates

Axial 12.0" link set going together

Decided to inboard the links. Hurt me to cut this brand new oe skid plate, but this is a period correct build and this was how we did it back then!

Heres the first rough cut

And after some sanding and cleanup with a hobby knife. I think i dub this the "Tie Fighter mod"

After some undocumented link building and futsing about, heres how the mockup it sitting right now.

I'm gonna order 55mm links for the upper cross braces, and I'm gonna replace the front upper 60mm links with 50s to gain some caster
