I've been needing a new charger for a while. I like the 989 super brain. I see in the specs it can handle up to 25 nimh cells. Does this mean I can charge four 6 cell packs at once? I'm wanting to be able to charge 2 packs at the same time at least. I'm not scared to spend a couple hundred bucks. I'm using 2 universal smart chargers right now, and I don't trust them($20 ebay cheapies). I'm sick of staring at my packs while they charge, monitoring the temps. They work well, but I want a charger I can grow into when I finally go lipo/brushless. Any suggestions would be killer.

If you are looking to go Lipo in the future, I would stay away from the SuperBrain chargers.

Despite what they claim, it has been determined that their chargers could actually damage a lipo pack. Supposedly they fixed the issue with the 989, but it's not worth the risk IMO.

If you are looking to charge 2 packs at a time and charge lipo's in the future, here is a good choice. Hold on to your wallet though. You will need a separate power supply, but most quality chargers require one as well. Keep in mind the lipo balancers are built in so you don't have that expense.

Another option is to just get 2 of these. They are AC/DC and the balancer is also built in.

You weren't kidding about the wallet. Is the 989 cool for nimh's? I don't have any direct plans for a bl/lipo upgrade in the near future. Just wanting to charge my E maxx packs with a quality charger. I run 3000 venoms now, but will pick up some bigger packs from all battery pretty quick. I think their biggest cells are either 4200 or 4600. Like I said, 2 at once, and the more, the marrier.

I've had the Super Brain 977 for over a year now, and I have a lot of different batteries to charge, both NiCad and NiMH. You don't even have to change settings manually if you don't want to. Just plug in ANY battery you have and it determines what it is and what to do.

I seen a charger in the tower book called the juice box. It's a dual, but don't know if it's a peak. Man, when my buddy bought this maxx, the lhs had an intellipeak charger that peaked 2 packs at 3.5 amps. We still have it, but one side has failed. There was a recall on it years ago, but we never sent it off. Something like that would be perfect.

If you just want to charge 2 nimh packs at a time, the SuperBrain 977 is the way to go.

I have the older 969 and has not failed me. I use it to charge nimh packs for my sons Rusty.

For my Lipo's, use a pair of Checkpoint chargers which are basically the same as the ICE.

Thanks for the info. I know these smart chargers are time bombs. They work pretty good, but only charge at 1.8 amps. And at $20 a piece, they have got to be too good to be true.
