New Associated X Yokomo YZ10 Classic Kit

I think it's cool that all of these nostalgia kits are coming out. They are meant for the oldtimers, not the young bucks. They have emotional attachment for the folks who used to have one or always wanted one.
I appreciate the effort these companies are making. If you want the latest technology these are not the rigs for you. You don't have to love every rc that comes out, buy what you like and be happy.

As a side note, I wasn't in the rc game back in the day, pretty new to RC's myself, but I can still appreciate these.

Because the other way is to chase your tail on a used one that’s not absolute trash that costs 150% what a re-re-re-re-release does that’s brand new, and has all of its hardware, and can be built in the likeness of that one you couldn’t afford in the ‘80’s when it’s all you wanted (but had a Tamiya Frog budget or someshiit).

Speaking of which-there’s been a fair amount of hate on not just Tamiya 1/10 ENTRY LEVEL, plastic kits as of late, but honestly just about everything from that era… Us “old guys” got INTO this hobby building our own kits, and everything that’s bagged on lately is what we had. Hate to say it, but if it weren’t for us cutting our teeth on ultra-delicate stuff for a decade or more, you guys wouldn’t have the instant gratification stuff, fired repeater style at your mom’s front door by the Amazon truck..

Shiit like this is 90% for nostalgic purposes.. There are guys that will run them in the vintage class on Saturday morning, but that’s their prerogative… Live and let live. Keep RC FUN, and bring people in; don’t run them out because the new release (that they’ve waited decades to see) is “beneath you”… just my .02. Rant over.

I actually kinda love some of the vintage Tamiya buggy kits. The Grasshopper, Hornet, and Frog are all ones I would love to grab and build up some day. It's mostly their onroad stuff and aome of the pricing they put on kits that turns me off.

As do I. Especially the cheap stuff. When I go looking for onroad stuff, the last place I’d look would be Tamiya..

My feedback is the engineering has already been done. Costs have been sunk. So why the hefty price tag? Don't give me excuses. Give me machines I want to drive for not a bazzillion dollars. Cuz I know I'll be spending on plenty of replacement /hop up parts.

So all they're doing is giving us a barrier to entry by pricing it so high. That is my point.

And no way would I be buying a Tamiya Grasshopper or Hornet. Unless they redesigned the motor configuration so it doesn't want to flip forward on jumps. A Clodbuster? Maybe

Costs are higher on these rigs because they are limited runs. It costs more to produce a short run. They don't want to produce too many, because there are only so many guys out there willing to spend money for nostalgia. It's all a balancing act.

I think the number of parts runs is a concern for the manufacturer. Perharps limiting the re-re's to 1 or 2 a year instead of 1 each month, making them another limited run to discontinue in a year? Its like someone saw a chance to sell rc cars as wall art and now they are being produced as such.
I already have broken kits with parts availibility problems.
If I buy this car , Its to run it. As stated, its a fantasy car that I couldn't have because I was still farting around with a Hornet.
If the parts were avail, with todays tech, I'll bet (maybe not this but some) old kits could be competetive with some kits of today.
I would like to try but not if the only way I can replace parts is to buy a donor kit along side it.
If manufacturers slowed the re-re's they could better gauge the demand.
My point... I was thinking that I wanted to buy a re-re to race. The Associated GT looked good BUT now so does the Yokomo, AND the Schumacher AND the Javelin... Who do I buy? What car(class) CAN I race? etc...
They could easily make parts for the WHOLE Associated line AND cover the RC10 and GT without much issue I'd imagine, but add 6 more re=re kits and its a mess for sure!
