I am looking for a new engine for my savage. I have the 5.9 in it now and it runs great I have no complaints except for it keeps up with everyone elses 5.9. I want speed, the only thing I want my mates to see are my tailights. I have done a little research and found that by changing spur gears, clutch bells, and diff gears I can get more speed but I want a different motor. Price is not a big deal and I found 2 motors that might do the trick.

LRP ZR .30
or
Ofna .28 Picco

Which one would be better or did I miss one?

Thats the top 2 i have never owned either one but everyone raves about both.

Yes, that is the one I was looking at. The Picco rated almost a full HP less but everyone and I pretty much mean everyone gives it a thumbs up. So I am leaning twards the LRP but does anyone have a different opinion?

That LRP will not work in a Savage. It is a bumpstart engine. You need one that is roto-start or pull start. Put very little stock in the number claimed for HP on engines. I have the pullstart version of the LRP .30 nad it is a beast. I also have two Picco P3.28s as well. Both the LRP and Picco are the best engines you can get under the $200 mark IMO. The Picco is a bit better made than the LRP, better bearings and stronger alloys. However either way you can't go wrong. Both will spank a 5.9 and not think twice about it. Run stronger, longer easier to tune. Yeah...just better in every way you can come up with.

doesn't LRP have a .32 out also? Is bigger not better in this case or am I mistaken about the LRP .32? Sorry IDK that much about after market nitro engines and I was just curious.

Yes they do...came out a few months ago. That is the biggest I would go on a nitro engine for sure. Any bigger and you just loose a lot of speed. I would nor mind trying one but I have too many engines just hanging out not being used.

Ah, well if the LRP wont work in the savage. I guess I will go with the Picco then. Thanks for the info !

I have the Extreme modified SH P8 .28 (same engine as the LRP spec 3 .28 and Mach 454) for $245 shipped NIB. It will outrun all the stock engines listed above with ease, check out the BST section for more info and vids if your interested.

I actually came across this motor in my research but decided not to add it to my list because I have heard very little about the brand. So you say the SH P8 will outrun both motors I have listed.

Does anyone have the same or different opinion? I lack experience of this brand.

Ahhhhh so the bigger engines generally have more torque and less speed? I wasn't aware of that. I just assumed bigger ment faster.

Alot of your power is also based on the rpm range that the engine can hit as well. You can actually get more torque out of a smallblock because of the higher rpm's they run. I've seen plenty of .12 engines that will outperform a bigblock as far as torque. Nothing beats a bigblock as far as sheer power but I've seen plenty of smallblocks outperform them.

You kinda have it a bit backwards....a .12 will not have more torque than a big block. It will have more RPM. Do not get HP and torque confused. You can convert that RPM to power but it has to be geared down. RPM is not torque....typically the higher the RPM the lower the torque of the engine. You need a balance of both. You can have an engine that turns a 100,000 RPM but if the second you throw a load on it it stops it is worthless. Same way as an engine that may have root ripping power but only turns 10k.....kinda pointless. You are not going to find a .12 that will out pull a .28. That is why you don't see .12s in a Savage. So you are saying a .12 in a T-Maxx is going to out run my .28 I have stuffed in there? Wanna put some money on it?:D

SH makes the engines for LRP, Mach, XTM and the list goes on. The only difference between many engines is the stamp on the side of the block and the cooling head. The SH P8 engine is 100% identical to the LRP spec 3 from the cooling head down.

This makes sense to me because electrics are basically the same way. you can't put a 10000kv motor in 1/8 scale truck as it doesn't have the torque to move it.....it would just burn up. I see the relation between the nitros and the electrics. thanks....I should have seen this already but never really put it together until it was summed up like that. So RPMs is your Speed and HP is your torque for nitro engines. Now when I'm looking at those engine dyno charts they should make a little more sense to me.

I think the thing he was getting out about this SH in particular is that his are modded to be even more bad ass than your typical SH engine or either one of the other two you listed.

Somebody buy this man a beer lol. That was my point exactly, thanks for clearing it up, I guess I didn't word it properly.
