Looking to get 2, 5 cell - 6 volt hump style nimh battery packs for my rc10gt, running jr xs3 with 590 steering, 270 throttle servos. I was told to check out onlybatterypacks.com, which I have and like their prices. I need some help in terms of what cell types to look at and what mah is appropriate. I am budget minded, but not going to dicker over a couple bucks.

well the cell type depends on what you re looking for.

2/3 aa's fit in more spaces, and give a very marginal weight gain.
2/3 aa's also have more steering torque (they dump more juice at once)
2/3 aa's for the reason above don't always last as long on a run.

regular nihm aa's last longer, but won't dump as much juice at once (not quite as much torque)
regular nihms take up a bit more space.
regualr aa nihms will however hold a charge longer.

With the Rc10gt I don't think steering torque is an issue especially with a 5 cell aa. If a regular size aa nihm will fit in your rc10gt I would say it's the definate pick for longevity (how long it holds a charge)

what mah is typically used? i see most rx packs seem to be in the 1100-1400 range, but i've seen some up to like 2300. is a 2300 that much better?

Mah Is Milli Amp hours., it's a rating as to how long the battery will last at a certain draw.

The 2300 will last better than 2 times a slong as a 1100 Mah, so it really depends on how long you bash or run your rig with, and how much of a difference in price.

Me I hate changing batterys, and I hate chargin' them, it's downtime for me.

Also if you are running digital servos, or aftermarket high draw servos (lots of torque and speed), it will power your servos longer and stronger.

Knowing the difference now I would NEVER have used alkaline (regular) aa's not even once. Regular aa batteries last 1-2 hours, some less. My 2300 Mah 5 cell pack honestly lasts all weekend (2 entire days of bashing). So yes 2300 Is that much better.

I would pay double for the double rating.. I would rather pay 20-40 for 2300 pack than 15-20 for an 1100

Also NiMH Vs NiCad.. no match.. NiCads are just junk compared to NiMHs runtime and power. Since they have come out with High Mah Nihms I have considered getting back into electric r/c's..

Get hi Mah Nihms and you will never worry about batteries again.
