I got a tmax 2.5 on trade and i can't get the glow plug to glow
I tested the steering and i dont get any movement.
Makes me think if the last owner got it wet and the servos are fried. This is my first nitro and i need help please message

Not familure with the T-maxx starting system ,does yours have the all in one starting unit?

First off, does the throttle/brake servo work? If it does then try plugging it into the steering servo port and see if there is any movement. If there is, then remove the steering linkage and see if you can get any movement out of the servo plugged back into the steering port on the receiver. If it doesn't then you'll need to replace the steering servo.

When you test the Glowpug are you using the EZ-Start wand to test it? if so, the plug needs to be touching the cooling head to complete the circuit.

Welcome to RCNT! You might try a glow ignitor for your glow plug. I have an EZStart wand that quit heating the glow plug the first time I used it. I understand that's pretty common.

Welcome to RCNT! I also had a traxxas starter wand fry. It does seem to be common indeed.
As far as the servo issues go, start right at the beginning and be 100% sure your battery is good and strong as well as 100% charged. I have seen a LOT of ppl run into random weirdness with their rigs due to that.
Once the battery is situated, follow @hamz9561 advice to figure out what is working and what is not. Let us know what you find and we can help further from there.
You have a couple of options as far as the glow plug issue. Again, start with a strong battery in the wand. You can verify power output of you have a meter. Also be sure that the wire on the glow plug is making a good contact.
Does the motor turn over? Are the lights on the wand lighting up? Have you taken the glow plug out of the engine to verify it is in good condition? (please answer and we'll be able to help You further)
You can bypass the wand-glow plug function by using a stand alone glow plug igniter. They are available from a TON of different mnufacturers at hobby shops and online.

If you buy one, I'd prob start with a simple, alkaline battery powered igniter. They are good to have in your tool box as a back up for situations just like this!
Let us know what you find. Your problems are likely simple to diagnose with some more info. There are a LOT of smart ppl here who are always willing to help out.Good luck!

I'm not sure if the throttle brake servo is working when i turn the car and controller on nothing moves or makes noise.

Just need someone to walk me through all the steps if testing the servos. When i turn my car and controller on it doesn't turn and throttle doesn't move.
Traxxas T-Maxx 2.5

By disconnecting the linkage on the other servo and swapping the plugs from one channel to the other, you can quickly check to see if it's working when you power everything up. You should check the other servo as well. Let us know what you find when the channels are swapped.
There are also tools avail to test your servos... Again, avail cheap...

This may be a good option for you and again, not a bad thing to have in your tool box.

@Wormstud97 here are a few steps to try:
  • First thing would me to make sure the batteries in your receiver and transmitter both are fully charged. Also ensure your trim is set to zero on both steering and throttle.
  • Ensure servo's are properly connected to the receiver.
  • Turn the transmitter and truck on.
  • Apply brake and throttle, making sure the linkage isn't binding anywhere.
  • Turn left and right, also checking to make sure nothing is binding.

We really don't know what we are dealing with!
When a truck is second hand ,the previous owner could have altered it ,It may or may not
have the original parts ,so it makes it hard to diagnose the problems.

Sometimes the switch itself can go bad or a bad battery connection can happen!
With a bad switch ,sometimes you can by pass it by connecting the battery plug direct
into the receiver for testing.
The old school battery boxes & switches are notorious for failure!

Def a number of things that can experience failure. In this case, this is why I recommend the K.I.S.S. method. By purchasing those 2 items, you can bypass a lot of failure points. Once identifying what is working, we can back track and pinpoint the issues.
A good multimeter would be helpful for testing as well. If you have one, let us know. We can dive right in to testing from there as well.

Where are my batterys in my reciecer

I'm trying to send video but can't get it to work.. when i turn it on the steering and throttle are binding up. I dont how to check my reciecers battery. My controls battery move my slasher. So i dont know why they wont move the tmax

I'm not sure if the throttle brake servo is working when i turn the car and controller on nothing moves or makes noise.
okay i disconnect the linkage aNd the steering works but then got slower and slower and quit makes me think my batterys are died. I'm going to replace the ones in the controller are there anymore i have to replace or charger on the truck itself

You most likely have a battery pack in the truck. If you have not done this, it is very important that you read the manuals that came with the truck. You do NEED to be familiar with all parts of this truck. They are not a simple turn on and drive kit. PLEASE read the manuals.
If the truck does have a battery pack, you need to charge it. Again, BEFORE you go to do any charging, read the manual for you battery charger as well.
Before we can get anything else answered, the battery NEEDS to be charged. Let us know when that's done. (charging a battery incorrectly can lead to explosion, fire and other damage. Make SURE you are familiar with ALL your gear before you move forward with this!

Awesome news!!! See??? Not so very terrible! Lol!!! Ok... So starting at the very beginning, make sure your battery is 100% charged. Again, be sure you are familiar with the battery pack as well as the charger. I am seriously trying to look out for you when I tell you to read the info about your battery pack and your charger. There is a guy on another forum that I am a member of as well... He burned his house down because of improper charging on his Lipo battery pack. No joke!
Anyways, is it charged up? When you plug it into the car and press the button, what happens? Also, look at the front of it, are there any lights that turn on when you hit the button? Which ones? Also, which lights are on when it's plugged in without pressing the button?

There is no lights on the truck when i turn it on. I'm buying batterys tonight it takes AA just like my controller but only takes four.
I havent found anything to plug into the truck it has a charge jack. But i can't seem to find one. But we i turn it on it makes that sound that my mini t did. It like moves the wheels alittle bit. That might have been because the trim wasn't on 0 like it should of been i forgot all about that stupid me. But everything works the shifter the throttle and steering. If someone could find me a picture of that charge jack cord that would be awesome. My phone doesn't really load things when I'm not on wifi

Ok... So the trucks radio system, the 4 batteries for the receiver and the batteries in the radio will all be new and that sounds like it will help us get to any underlying issues with that... Now, did your truck come with the 'ez' start system? It looks like this...

The lights on this are what I was asking about...

It also has a plug in the end of it that looks like this

1104161733a.webp

And it plugs into your truck in a plug that should be located somewhere on the top of the truck. It looks like this:
1104161742.webp

The starter wand (the first pic) opens up and there is a battery that goes inside...

This is the battery we need to make sure is charged... If you have some but not all of these parts... Or if you have a pull starter, we need to talk about that next. I have to run out for an hour and some but I will be back... Please check into what you have and if you have the battery pack for the wand, please charge it.
