I travel to Johnson City a few times a month, 110 miles from here, and I have no cell phone service once I'm 15 miles out of Knoxville.
I pay $50 a month for unlimited everything, but if I can't make calls from some areas it just isn't worth paying for the service any more.
Any suggestions? My current provider is Cricket. I have a Motorola Razr, but it's locked by Cricket, so I'll also need a new phone.

on a more serious note. I'm pretty sure its your carrier. Cricket isnt a very widespread company. I know around here, if you go far from metro houston, you dont have service. in order for it to work anywhere your gonna have to go with one of the big 3. att, verison, or sprint. Even t-mobile is spotty around here. I've heard alltel is growning nicely though.

Well, after doing a little research on my own, I went with ATT. I already use them for my land line and DSL internet. I got the $60 a month unlimited everything plan and the Samsung Magnet phone with the qwerty keyboard.
I hate to give up the Razr, but I can't rely on Cricket when I leave town. Sux.
At least they'll be transferring the same phone number to the new service.

I don't know where that is from Knoxville, but when I went through there on my way to Charlotte I had no service problems anywhere with Verizon. I have ATT now and have better service here but haven't got to travel with it. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Johnson City is straight up I-40 and Route 81, almost into Virginia. I've been paying Cricket for the extended nationwide service, and I don't know where it starts or ends. Besides, I'm probably heading back up to New York this summer and it's nice to know I have a service that works everywhere.

I've been an AT&T user for the last seven years. I'll never switch away. Now while Verizon sat there bashing AT&T on tv, AT&T upgraded the hell out of their systems. I've always had great service.

Good to hear. All the final details were ironed out today, and I'll have the phone in a few days. Then all I do is call ATT and they make the transfer over from Cricket. I should have gone with ATT 5 years ago when I got talked into Cricket.
